Default Movistar phone hack?

Not hacked in the sense that people are monitoring, but has anyone come across this, or anything similar? Need background before I approach Movistar.

A friend called me about a year ago now and asked WTF is that music behind your ringtone? Not a clue what he was on about - I never call myself. I keep a prehistoric Samsung for txt and urgent calls. Usually put a Tenner, or Fiver on it for prepay. Everytime I top up it gives the new credit balance by txt. When I wake in the morning I have Two txt messages stating your credit is less than €3 followed by less than €2 then all the cash has gone. I check the call log and message outbox to make sure, but I haven't used the phone other than a single txt to a local number.

What the f*** is going on? I want my money back.

Anyone any idea?

Sometimes you get 'push messages' where you are charged.

Other times, it is because it is 'synching' with the cloud so it's consuming loads of data.

Could either of these be it?

Hola

There are many "scams" where after you've rung a number, you are deemed to agree to receive dubious things like new ring tones.

Cheaper to change your number usually

No messages received (other than from Movistar informing me all my cah has gone). No cloud synching - simple as can be 'old skool' Samsung.

Just checked my call log and evrything has vanished! At least that shows I haven't made/received any calls to be charged for.

This happened to me with Vodafone. I´m on PAGO. Go down to your local Movistar shop/outlet and report it. They will have a log of calls/texts received. I did manage to get everything blocked but I didn´t get my credit back.

That statement really isn´t necessary You are being derogatory to the OP. He/she didn´t use any rude words just the letters. If you feel that you need to point this out then perhaps you ought to chill out.

I do not think this is affecting his credit balance.

Wife's Moviestar PAYGO had exactly this - to the Moviestar shop you shall go - never recurred.

And, to the Movistar shop I went...

"Hi, I have a problem with my phone" etc etc etc.

Movistar lady: "We only deal with contract phones here".
Me: "But I bought the phone from this here Movistar shop 10 years ago. I pay Movistar. It says Movistar on the phone".
Movistar lady: "No. You will have to call customer services. We only deal with contract phones".

Conversation continued until she opened the door of the shop and told me to leave. I asked to speak to her manager. Eventually she called her manager and spoke to him in front of me explaining that "there was a poor man with a basic prepay phone in the shop refusing to leave". Obnoxious as!!! Her manager then told her to call customer services for me from my phone. I have no idea what happened, but I received a text message I barely understand...

Su baja en el servicio Anticipo de Saldo Automatico se ha realizado con exito.
I am clueless. I will put another €10 on today and see what happens tomorrow.

"What about all my money?" I asked.

Movistar lady just shrugged her shoulders, so I left the shop telling her I was going to post my story all over the internet and write to a couple of papers.

If she had been polite and helpful in the first place (afterall, I have been spending money on Movistar for 10 years) I may have listened to a sales pitch about upgrading my phone, or switching to contract. I guess they're only interested in their commission potential.

See what happens tomorrow.

You must be poor if you have a paygo sim. Everybody knows the only sensible thing to do is pay €50 per month for €10 worth of service, so you can get a "free" iPhone every 2 years, which costs them <€300. Hmm. 24x40 = about 300 dunnit?

Silly poor person.

So, why not call 1004 (it's a free call) ask to speak in English and get them to sort the problem?
