Take a look in any young families trolley in Spain and you can see what they buy for the kids...it's all sweet and clingy stuff. When they aren't eating sweet stuff they are stuffing them with bread.
I do agree with Cricketman that the rich are thinner, it seems to apply to any country although I don't understand why this is
There are always exceptions. I used to stay with a Spanish friend in Elche when I was young, her father was huge and I could see she would run to fat when she got older...lots of Spanish women have thunder thighs
Anyway, they used to stuff themselves with pastries for breakfast and would have more around 6pm! He owned 2 shoe factories

Hate to admit this but I agree with CM and J2. You used to see lots of skinny folk a few years back in Madrid, in barrios like Malasana and Lavapies. Not now. I think people drink more now, and on average the free tapa is more substantial than years back. Plus all around you do see a lot of kids munching away on sweet and savoury stuff.

I think it's probably true that the poorer are more likely to be obese, but there are plenty of wealthy folks out there that are, too. Mostly the older ones.

Well, over 70% of Marbella residents are Spanish more than a lot of expat places. There are already those sort of shops there though.

The article also quotes high rents, doesn't it? Seems like greedy landlords are killing the goose that lays the golden egg. I mention this because a poster was on here yesterday trying to make out it was a purely Spanish thing. Unfortunately, this type of foolish greed can be found in all countries.
