Ipeople want their life to be the sam as in the UK, but with more sun. Buy a sunlamp! Its the cause of so many probems, heartache and disappointment
Come to Spain if you want to live in Spain. And be a part of it, warts and all.

I'd pay voluntary NI in UK at 8 GBP pw & just do local work here. Far cheaper than the 270e pcm legal route. Private health is c 50e pcm, tax bands are similar to UK so once you go down the legal insured option you are down for being a wage slave & you could have stayed in the UK for that.
Whatever you decide go for it, best of luck.

i think we are prepared for the fact that it wont be like a holiday and that it will be bl00dy hard work to start off with with lots and lots to learn and do and adapt to. hopefully it will be a bit like a holiday for a couple of weeks to a month whilst we sort stuff out but we will have to get away from the beach and be pretty disciplined if we are to make a good go of it.
moving in september i think will give us the reality a lot quicker of 'real life' rather than if we moved over in may/june.
the only thing of major concern is the reports of the job situation, really need to work something out and quickly!

I am part of it, but how can life be totally different??? Life is what you make of it wherever you live and I have a wonderful life. But stuff still needs to be done and if you move with the people you lived with in the UK, the only difference is whats on the outside, the family, chores, problems and concerns tend to be the same. How can they be different?????

Hi Lisa,
I have a friend who owns a specialist Pet Insurance company, based in Benitachell (5km from Moraira), regaring the Spanish plates, I was under the impression that you can have foriegn plates for 6 months maximum (although many foriegners flout this rule), regarding work, September being the end of the season, it may be difficult to find work such as bar work, depends on your Spanish, but there are plenty of opportunities for self motivated and business minded people to make a living here. If you wouldl ike more information please contact me.

Hi All,
New here so just a quick intro... I am mid 20's professional currently working and living in Surrey, myself and my boyfriend are looking to move to Moraira in September with my two dogs.
I know the area well and have been there at least once a year for the past 20 years....
My OH speaks spanish well, i am a complete beginner but after a week or so am able to speak a little.
We are lucky that we have a place sorted over there which apart from bills will not cost us anything. The plan is to eventually start our own business but we want to experience being in spain as a resident rather than as a tourist before we consider doing that.
We have enough put away to last us a few months living but ideal case is finding a job before we go out there. I have some family friends who will help so we are in a relatively good position, however we could do with some ideas re:
1. Dog insurance- does anyone have pets over there, what sort of prices are usual? I have two male collies.
2. Car- I have read two different posts one which says conversion to Spanish plates needs to be done within 30 days one 6 months- can anyone confirm?
3. Local job sites, boards, papers, agencies- I will check the Costa news site regularly but if anyone has any more local knowledge that would be great. Ideally we want something more than bar work but we will be happy to do anything (within reason) when we first move over.
OH works with boats and I am a service opperations manager for a large electronics company
Also, if anyone has any general feedback about living and working over there, health care etc, general cost of living etc thats great.
we are both relatively clued up on Spain but want to make sure our eyes are wide open before taking the plunge.
Many thanks in advance
Lisa
