Hello,
My name is Yvonne. I am a 44 year old recently widowed English lady whom hopes to move to Spain very soon.
I would love to hear from anyone who lives in the Gandia region whom could assist me with the following questions:
I am looking at houses in Ador - does anyone know this region? or can suggest any other areas to move to?
Work situation - I hope to teach English (I am at present teaching parttime in the Netherlands) and also to write articles/short stories/business. Do you think this would be workable?
My 21 year old nephew would also like to move with me to Gandia - he is just looking for some bar work or tourist work - what are the possiblities?
Thank you so much for anyone who can assist me. I hope to hear from you soon.

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.
BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let me know if you need any further help.

Ador is nearer Palma De Gandia rather than Gandia Town, so a little further out. Nice area though for walking and cycling, I used to cycle a lot around there and Rotova.
Short drive to Gandia, which is a nice town and very busy. Blue flag beaches nearby at Gandia / Oliva and you are also quite close to a few national Parks, such as up at La Drova and Pego Marshes.
Good friday market at Oliva for fruit and veg, and also a big market in Gandia twon on Saturdays.
|As regards work, well .. unemployment in Spain is terrible at the moment. With the right contacts you may find work teaching, but as far as bar work is concerned I would think it very doubtful for your nephew

I walked along the beach at Gandia this morning. It is lovely but you must like your own company!! last time I was there was august & it was packed. Today, lovely & sunny but I saw 50 people tops in 2 hours.
The city itself of Gandia is very nice, sorry I don't know anything about Ador I have only driven through it.
Good luck, pm me if you want any more details.

The going rate around the town for English tuition seem to be around the 5 euros an hour mark
Work wise the news is not good sadly.

Now that is a sad bit of news, I used to pop in there on my way down the paseo and have a glass. I always felt it was a popular place and could weather the storm. Maybe the rents are too high as it is/was in a prime position? I will lookout for what if anything replaces it.

Thank you everyone for your kind messages and I am so so looking forward to moving to Spain. I really enjoy a very quiet life so closed bars is no problem for me as long as I have the sea still to look at.
As for my nephew, if he can not get work then maybe he can go back to school ;-) I see there is a college in Gandia? Is that correct?
PS. Can anyone tell me how to get from Alicante airport to Gandia or know of a (cheapish) taxi company/shuttle/shareride company?

Rather than try and get from Alicante airport to Gandia, where there is no link by public transport at all, it would be more sensible to fly in to Valencia airport whence very adequate rail link exists to Gandia.

I agree Valencia airport would be much better for the onward journey.
If you are wanting to see the sea daily then Gandia playa would be better than the town as they are some distance apart.
Does your nephew speak fluent Spanish?
