As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Rosemary

Not in that area of Spain but welcome over. www.idealista.com is a good place to look for properties in Spain.

Well .... where can I start .....

I dont live there, but Ive been up there on a number of occasions touring and my next door neighbour in Spain was from Galicia.

It is without doubt a beautiful area, and often likened by people I know to Scotland in some ways. Unfortunately that also relates to climate as well as countryside as it can be bloody cold up there ... snow, rain, wind .... just like Scotland

So if you are moving there for a better overall climate, forget it ... look elsewhere. However if you like beautiful countryside, friendly people and loads of great architecture then its the place for you if you can get over the local language. Not really sure what the employment situation would be like though ....

No, you wont need a licence to buy in Spain ..... you will have to prove income and health care to become resident here though .... and you will need to become resident if you live here full time

Bear in mind your tax free lump sum in the UK wont be tax free in Spain, so you'd need to do that before you became tax resident in Spain. If you have a government pension that will always be taxed in the UK, unless the rules change, whereas your state UK pension will be taxed in Spain

We live in Galicia, near Viveiro, and have been here for about 8 years. As has been said before the weather here is bad during the winter. The winter just gone we only had a total of three days during a three month period when it did not rain. There are a few English expats around but mainly around the Ortigeria area near Ferrol.

Ha, that makes Asturias sound like paradise in comparison

Hi Is this a sub-forum of Spain? I can't see a separate section for Galicia ? We are seriously thinking of moving to Galicia and of course we have a ton of questions, how do I get back to this Galicia section when I want to ?

No this is just a thread, there are no sub forums for individual provinces.

Hello.

New here so go easy.

I might be moving to Vigo or Pontevedra in the summer. I have a few questions.
  1. What is the night life like in those cities?
  2. Are there any expats around 20-40 years old?
  3. Is there enough to keep a person who enjoys a lively nightlife busy?
  4. Are there nice parks for running?

That's enough for now!

Thanks in advance
