I'm trying out a range of types with an eye to selecting the more useful as well as the decorative. These are all seed grown, and should resemble what it says on the packet. Once I have a couple that I like, then I will propagate each year by cuttings, rather than seed so that I can keep them true. If they all survive there are possibly 40 types growing by now.
Great will speak to Christine for when she pops to see you.

One in six people are unemployed (official statistics), and many people on the black that will do anything for cash in hand.

Reality check time - it takes a year to network, so have you sufficient cash in the bank to live for that amount of time?

I don't want to spoil your party, but more importantly, I want you to succeed, so be prepared

Goodness me! Not a years worth no! Sounds like I'll be pounding the tarmac looking for work....

Oh well - I make a mean soup and could probably get away with not having to buy anything other than food for a while.....

Will have to find my Yorkshire grit!

Any advice would be really appreciated.....

No-one seems to have mentioned that Browns Bar, close to Hotel Los Gallos is doing very well and it is a good place to meet ex-Pats and get you started. The Lemon Tree likewise, as already posted.

TV - there are a couple of companies locally that will install FREEVIEW TV for a one-off payment and no ongoing subscription to SKY, which gives you all your BBC/ITV etc requirements.

Yes, it is tough here, but if you are honest, reliable and work hard, you will eventually build a good reputation and these are the people who tend to SURVIVE !!

Very best of luck to you both - p.s. you can still get a beer for 1euro, so not all is bad !!!

Not at the chiringito I went to this week 2 euros for a small can. Also be careful of installing Sky with subscriptions locally to Chiclana as a maintenance fee of 150 euros is deducted from your bank account annually without your prior agreement, and when the new Sky card is issued and you can´t get the full package there is nobody to complain to.

Hey that's great news about Browns Bar - we've been a couple of times before and plan to make it our first port of call when we arrive in August. The owners we so friendly last time we went.

I like the idea of a one off payment for Freeview for BBC and ITV - perhaps if things go well workwise we can upgrade to Sky at a later date.

Handed my notice in at work now so it feels very REAL!

Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about this organisation - ChiFRA. According to this article:

http://www.diariodecadiz.es/article/...a/inglesa.html

set up to help us Brits settle into the Costa de la Luz?

Sounds interesting?

No I am not a member, did give it a lot of thought but decided against it as OH and I do not plan to be here long term, yes I think for those that need it, it can be very helpful. I am not sure if you are aware of the dreadful problems that some people have here in Chiclana regarding the homes they have bought; it was considered by the local Chiclana council to have one organised body of people to deal with rather than individual people glogging up their office's.

There are a few members that post on here, but I think you would be better off joining the other forum that I gave a link to and ask your questions there as well as on here.

Thanks for that - just joined. Thought it would be a nice way to meet people too. Hopefully I won't need it for problems. I see they're having a Sunday lunch next weekend - if only I was there now!
