Default Moving to Alicante..pls Help!

Hi everyone I am planning to move to Alicante with my girlfriend beginning of March.
We have been about 4 years in London working as Hotel receptionist and teacher assistant, we are not British but seen this forum hope can find some answers and also some help..
We are going just for 1 week middle of February to see the surrounding area and decide where to live.
Where should be looking to find a not to high rent costs near a bilingual school and some hotels?
We could have the chance to take a car with us when we will move permanently
but it depends also of the costs and on what to do when you want to registered a foreign car in Spain,do we need to change the plates or we can keep the original ones?

Hope on your support,

Marco and Anna

Most important thing is work permits before you move to Spain.

If you both have work in the UK then maybe wait until the economic crisis is settled, or go over there for a few holidays and see what you can find, then if things dont work out, you havent lost anything???

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

well that depends where they are from - but you're right if they're not EU, of course

I'd say that WORK would be very important though

We are from EU,so it would not be a problem to work there as long as we find one..
But we want to try our luck..
We are not to sure where to go and look for apartment over our holidays..
Villajoyosa,Benidorm..or south Alicante as Santa pola or Torrevieja..

Any good sugestions? besides to go to the pub...

The most obvious place would, of course, be Benidorm, and at this time of year, if you know your way around, rents are cheap. There are very few hotels, comparatively, in any of the other Costa Blanca resorts, such as Torrevieja.

You obviously know already, but the employment situation all over Spain is dire.

If you did come over, you would have at least six months with your foreign car, and if you found employment you have plenty time to register or whatever else you have to do, there is nothing you need to do before your arrival.

Good luck.

There are many very nice budget hotels all along Costa Blanca, you are spoiled for choice. Best to decide where you would like to be?

I could recommend several, e.g.
Right next to the bus station. Ideal if you do not have transport @ £41.22 per night.
Close to the beach @ from £38.00 per night
http://www.travelrepublic.co.uk/acco...f76&id=2464809
Close to N332 @ from £24.00 per night

There are not really "Bilingual" schools in the area. The State Spanish Schools teach in Valenciano and Castillano and would require fluency and qualifications in these languages. The Private english schools teach the english curriculem with foreign languages Spanish french german etc as in UK. Dont think they have teaching assistants as most are struggeling with pupils leaving due to "crisis" and teachers pay is low.
