Where you based cowboy ? what makes me laugh on this forum and ive heard a million times over is so many people say its sooooooo hard to get work and its soooooooo tough to survive out there i think we all get the picture but at the end of the day its tough in the uk as well ! Theres alot of people willing to sacafice everything to go for a better quality of life in the sun and they know there not going to earn the salarys that they can earn in uk, jobs are going to be alot different in spain ie lower pay get what job you can ,but in the uk you have got to earn more because of cost of living is riseing i think at the end of the day GOOD LUCK to anyone who makes the move dont let anyone put you off other wise u will regret it later on in life you only live once and if you have to come back to uk so what who cares at least you tried it ! i know alot of expats out in spain who made move and said they never want to come back there lives there are complete !

Well - Ive been here for 12 years and have never not had work! As long as you are willing to try and get on with it then life here is very rewarding
I came here with young kids, 3.5 and 5 at the time. Straight into spanish school and are both fluent. Theyre now studying to go to university.
Yes crime is on the rise, but doesnt compare with the Northeast where I left and Im originally from London.
Im not as fluent ith my spanish as I would like but I have had no problems with the Spanish at all and e are fully accepted and integrated.
Life is too short to not try - good luck

I'd agree with a lot of what you say, but the prejudice statement is a little strange, for the same prejudice exists in most countries and is not special to Spain.
A balanced view is what is required ....... I found it stressful when we first came here and I'd done all the necessary research and spent some considerable amount of time planning.
There are those that make a snap decision .... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but in general you have to credit people with some intelligence. It's a huge decision to leave home and ship off to a new country, and it shouldn't be taken lightly.
My experience tells me that you should prepare for at least 6 months of trying to sort out admin in Spain, and as the Cowboy says, that can be stressful to say the least. My neighbour a few doors away said that Spain is a great place to live, but if only you could wave a magic wand and have all your initial organisation and paperwork sorted for you .... Of course you can always use a gestor for the lot if you want to spend the money

I agree Rixxy, I never had a problem when I came here either, in fact I had companies begging me to work for them after they saw my CV and I didn't speak Spanish. Spain also opened an other area of opportunity which I hadn't thought of before coming here, so it gave an idea and career change and it's paying dividends now. Although I have the company based in Uk which I set up only a couple of years ago, more because of convenience as my business partner is there, but I still work here in Spain and chose how much time I spend here so I've made that happen to get the life I want. But we are looking at doing more work here as there are plenty of opportunites here as well for us.
So as you said there are opportunities here if people look and I've also integrated with the Spanish and don't have problems with them. My Spanish was non existent when I came here and I didn't know anyone. But I've managed to buy a house in Spanish and live amongst Spanish who don't speak a word of English and deal with workmen etc and just learn the spanish I need to sort out the problems that I encounter.
There are many people who have made a success of Spain and doing very well and from different countries.

and may i commend your intent ,and i hope everthing works out for everone in this forum ,but as we've seen in recent posts things in Spain aren't allways what there made out to be and all responders to posts are only trying to give the bennefit of their experiance so that the new members can learn the easy way.I have now stepped back from "Living on the Edge" as I've spent most my life there ,taking Financal and Phyiscal risk ,so now i can afford as much room as i want

My wife is from Leicester, and I'm from Lincolnshire, near Market Rasen. We have son and grandchildren living in Desford and my wife has brothers in Loughborough. Know all about crime in Leicester, in fact just after we met she was mugged on her way home from shopping.
