Default Motorcycling in Spain

Hi all,

Not sure if this is in the right forum...but it seemed the most appropriate!

I shall be in Spain for a few days in October for a classic motorcycle rally, can anyone advise me on the subject of a bail bond, which some people seem to think I need and others tell me I don't!

Thanks in advance....

I think you will find that bail bonds are no longer issued as they are no longer required in Spain.

Similarly there is no longer any requirement to carry a green card for travel within the EU although many insurance companies issue them automatically every year just in case you go to a country that needs one.

If you do have one it at least proves that you have the minimum required insurance although your insurance certificate should suffice.

We understood that with insurance you get basic very basic cover without a green card. Here in Spain we have been issued green cards, which cover us all year and not a few months, for all of Europe.
So you should check with your insurance company what you are covered for with and without a green card.

Quite the reverse. All a green card signifies is that you have the minimum insurance required by law.

The cover that you have is determined by your insurance company. I am insured with Linea Directa (fully comp) and I am covered anywhere in the EU for an unlimited period. They give me a green card at renewal but it is only required outside the EU.

Tis true my fellow rider, bail bonds are no longer. Tourists are subject to on the spot fines. Well worth ensuring you have the green card as it has all EU languages and is recognised all over. Also well worth having comprehensive roadside assistance to cover any eventuality such as a puncture. Big bike riders in Spain are very friendly towards each other I find. It is the peds and little scoots which are not well regarded.

Be sure to look for me then, I'll be riding a little 150cc MZ and travelling with a Welshman, also on an MZ!
