We've only ever had the one Padron (well three actually, one with my name on, one with my husband's and one with both). It's dated 21 September 2005. I've always kept the original and handed over photocopies fof it or everything, including matriculationg the car this year. We also voted in this year's elections, no questions asked.
I didn't realise it had a shelf-life as everybody has accepted it quite happily, despite it being two years old and despite handing over photocopies.

In all our dealings (personal & professional) the certificate had to be an original and not older than 3 months.
