1) Have you considered what it would be like living INLAND in spain.? Very different from being on the coast, including much worse transport links, although novelda nearby has a train station and the a31 local motorway is quite good i guess. 2) Montfort itself not much going on, and the places around it also not much going on either. Novelda, some ok shops but thats about it. Aspe, Nothing there. NOTHING, NOWT, NOT A THING, NADA :scaredhair::banghead: Elda: Uninspiring. Some ok shops but quite spread out, not much going on there either. The local extrajaneros office is here too, which is where you will have to queue up at 6 in the morning to get your NIE number with a load of Moroccans, Algerians and Romanians. (nothing wrong with them, just being descriptive) Elche: FANTASTIC PLACE! seriously . plenty of shops, lots of culture, good transport links, things to do, recommended. (bet some people on the forum didnt expect me to say that!), in fact you will have to go there a lot, especially if you want to do a (massively overpriced) but normal shopping trip. They have carrefour, media markt, decathalon, toys r us and a host of other places. Also santa pola, a resort nearby is quite fun too. As is the safari park zoo thing around there. and lastly you need to visit at least once, ecvebn from a spiritual point of view, the church or whatever it is of San Pascual, which is at the top of a huge steep hill overlooking the area, more nearer to "Orito" just down the road............... ....and a monk, (A real one) for the last few centuries (not the same one of course_ :p), walks up the huge hill every day and waters all the pot plants that are placed neatly around the place. It would be an essay to describe it to you. Biblical views from the summit too. If you ever want to chill out, thats the place to go. ..............which be careful if your house is located below there in the faceless and soulless urbanisation. There is a large unfinished urbanisation (housing estate) full of dull drab "wimpey homes" houses (it could be suggested by some), tiny little identical shoeboxes, on a soul-less estate slap bang next to a motorway with precious little else............... .....where did i put that can of worms?????? ....and a bIt further down the road there is a golf "resort", sandwiched between 2 motorways, full of retired expats with nothing to do all day but play golf, or drive a round trip of 50 kms on a Saturday to fill their time by eating sausage rolls in la romana with their other "SPEAK english only thank you" friends.........:eek::eek: SO MOST "BARGAINS" RENTED AND FOR SALE HOMES ADVERTISED TO ENGLISH EXPATS TO MOVE TO SPAIN ARE IN FACT ON FACELESS URBANISATIONS, SOME PROBABLY ILLEGAL BUILDS, AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE SO CHEAP ......so despite the locality to airport, how many times will be using the trip to the airport? If not much then i wouldn't use that as a main reason for moving somewhere. If the house is cheap, its probably for a reason........ it could be suggested.............. .......but i am sure there are very nice people who do live there, its just my advice to you is based on observation and 1st hand experience, and from talking and knowing other people who live around there. .....and also there's a not a lot to do around there unless you like driving a lot, a long way, very frequently. |

Without putting to fine a point on it Monforte and similar areas (Aspe, La Romana, Hondon, etc) are great for people looking for Spain on the cheap, but for people who want their kids to have a decent education, etc. there's not much on offer. |

Well, based on the other thread the husband is a pilot and will be working out of Alicante Airport.

A sizeable city with lots of palm trees. The best place I personally can think of which would be nice for your little boy and for yourself if youre not working. |

We all have different interests, but .... Monforte del cid is a small town which does not even boast a decent cafe. Only nice thing I can say is that the accomodation will be cheap

Julie Gran Alacant is not so well connected. Car recommended. Lots of English there. There's even a new half decent state school there to that is not just a pile of portacabins. Kids start from 3 years old. If you want something that is a lot cheaper but still has good infrastructure and is even nearer the airport than El Campello consider San Vicente del Raspeig (the town where Alicante University is located). |
Re: Monforte del cid
sorry to be so stupid but know nothing about San Juan Playa either. All i know is that we need easy access to Alicante aiport and a family friendly enviroment.
Don't want to end up in the wrong location, so aboslutely any help is greatfully appreciated, Tele Addict do you know the name of the school?? julie |
