Default Mollina

Good morning,

I'm looking for a project property and there seems that there are many to be had in Spain, I've found a property that need some work (I don't think anything major)
It's in a small town called Mollina, I've been on to google earth and there seems to be a lot of new houses being built.

Any of you know the area?

Thanks

I don't know it well but have been to Mollina as I have a friend lives near there. I find it a strange place, quite sprawling as you say with quite a few new properties also static sites. There are shops bars restaurants etc but for me it seems unlike most Spanish villages, to have no heart to it. Remindided me a bit like a Wild West Town. However I believe there is a large thriving expat community there and no doubt much more to it than I saw on one visit and passing through a couple of times. Horses for courses I suppose . Having said that where my friend lives strikes you as similar but in fairness although not the prettiest village is friendly well served with shops restaurants bars and very friendly locals a great place to live. I would say visit and stay in Mollina to get a true perspective and satisfy yourself it suits you.

I have been a few times. Had my car fixed there once.

I would agree with Bob. It is a sprawling place. If I remember correctly there was a new "housing" estate built around the time of the crash. Very near the motorway.

What I would say is that because it is near the motorway it is easy to get to and not far from Antquera which is a lovely town with an Eroski, Lidl and Mercadona supermarkets. maybe an Aldi too.

There is a large expat population in the area with a regular weekly expat market at Hotel Saydo. There is a large static home site behind hotel saydo.

It is a bit difficult to be more specific without knowing your interests. For example if you like exploring cities then you are very handily placed for excellent 2 lane motorways to Granada, Cordoba, Malaga and Seville. Mollina sits on a fertile plain and is thus mainly arable crops however you aren't far away from olive trees. Similarly stunning scenery is nearby. El Torcal, flamingo lake at Fuente de Piedra, the "Lake District " near El Chorro. Several good garden centres nearby. Colder in winter than Malaga and hotter in summer.

Good builders merchant near La Veronica on the Mollina side outskirts of Antequera. There is/was a large reclamation yard for old building materials in Mollina.

You can't beat visiting an area to get a feel for it.

Thank you for your replies.

I've looked around the street on google and your right in as much there seem to be no heart to the town.

I'm really not sure what I'm looking for? I found a property in the web in Mollina, it's an older style house surrounded by new builds.... it looked a bit quirky which appeals to me.

I want some where I'm no more than hours drive from everything, beach, airport, major towns. I don't want to be in a big town itself.

I want peaceful holidays, I'm not big on tourist attractions, I like to walk and wander around, but most of all to relax in warm weather. I'm keen on having a refurbishment project also.

You do have good road links to Malaga and the coast from that area. Also rail links I seem to remember you can get the high speed train nearby as well. Apart from Antequera which as Olivefarmer said is a lovely town, other than that most places in the immediate vicinity are small towns similar to Mollina. Again for walking and general interest places then there are some great places to visit in the area. However the whole area is very much olive production huge plantations of them and other than that quite bare. Basicly it sits in the plain that you fly over just before landing at Malaga. You would realy need to visit and explore the area to form an opinion. Again as Olivefarmer says the area gets more extremes of weather than coastal areas, VERY hot in summer and quite cold at times in winter. I am surprised someone living there has not been on with information for you, as in that region there are large pockets of British expats. You certainly will get more house for your money in that area than coastal areas, but it has to be right for your needs.

Thank you bobd22.
I've read that there are many Brits living in and around Mollina and hoped they might reply.... I might have also been a bit cheeky and asked to drive past this particular property. 😊.
