Hi.... Phil here...
Thanks for the replies... they have helped to give further food for thought.
The area is going to have to play an important factor as we also have 3 children aged 18, 15 & 4 - the eldest 2 are into their watersports, our 18 yr old is studying to be come a watersports instructor... The 15 year old has another year left at school and currently doing her GCSE's... has any one moved over there with children of this age and how did they cope...

How about if he was based in say the Costa de la Luz and advertised as a mobile diesel engineer ?? Are most of the Spanish marinas tied in to people they allow to work there like many of the British ones? Do they charge commission on outside contractors coming in to work ?
Even a small port like Sancti Petri in Chiclana has yachts and fishing boats, and larger boats plying tourist trips around the harbour, but I reckon there may not be enought work for an expat engineer. If he needs to earn a full time living I would head for the places like Puerto Banus where you have huge glossy gin palaces and real money, not the real sailors with yachts who are mostly skint cause all their money goes on their boats.
Come on Lis48 where are you ?? You know where the rich and famous hang out..
Try posting on www.YBW.com forums. Many guys on there who have sailed the Spanish coast who may be able to share their experiences.
