The Valencia region doesn't really have an inland as such, it is all coastal.

Aras de los Olmos-Valencia ....101 km, 1hr.45min drive.
Camporrobles-Valencia,..........105 km, 1hr.20min drive.
I'm only 25kms out and can't see the sea.

I think it's down to the fact that the Med coast of Spain has such a bad stereotype, as the Costa Concrete, inhabited by red, sweaty Brits in Union Jack pants and nothing else. People forget that it's not all like that, but enough of it is to taint the whole coast in people's perception.

If the Valencian tourist board got hold of your figures, they wouldn't have any.

From Alicante itself to Madrid is 420kms, so if you can average around 200kph
you'd likely make a hell of a living on the F1 circuits, providing the cops didn't feel your collar first.

The main routes from Valencia are every bit as good or possibly better than Alicante, incl. an excellent direct link to Madrid, the main North/South highway and in addition the superb new toll free Mudejar highway towards the North coast.
Unfortunately they haven't yet got around to building new motorways to every remote mountain village.
Maybe I should organise a petition and put in a complaint about that.

OK then, I'm four hours away from Madrid and the same time from Marbella. It's all motorway to Marbella and the new section between Murcia and Granada is usually empty and has astounding scenery.
Talking about motorways, I can get to one in five minutes and if I drive north and pay all the tolls and stay on it, it takes me directly to Calais.

The coast versus inland debate is purely an expat thing and on the CDS the poorer expats live inland because they can't afford to live on the coast. You could buy a whole inland village if you sold your villa in Marbella.
And the Spanish who live in the coastal cities of Barcelona, Valencia and Malaga have a very low opinion of their fellow countrymen who live inland, a polite English translation of the inlanders would be something like backward yokels, with an emphasis on the well documented in-breeding in such places.
