Hello everyone
New to this site so all advice greatly appreciated and apologies if some items have been covered elsewhere.
We (wife, + 2 kids age 4 and 6 mnths) are beginning to work towards purring our long term wish into reality and moving to Mallorca. Ideally we would have enough spare cash not to have to work (more on this below) for c. 12 to 18 months and this would allow us to get to know the community and island better as well as learn the lingo. So…
Education: we plan to send our children to Spanish state school. What is the process for registering and is it ultra-competitive and as varied in quality as in the UK?
Location: we would like to rent and have a budget of c. 1000 euro a month. Places we have thought about are Soller and Santanyi but really all we need is a mixed Spanish / international community within an hour of Palma and not miles away from the coast. Suggestions welcome and is our budget reasonable for renting a 3 bedroom place? We also have a pet dog which I am guessing will limit our options.
Work: we have budgeted on neither of us working for 12 gto 18 months and have worked this out on a £1500 per month budget excluding rent but covering everything else. Is this realistic? Also, I was thinking of doing a TEFL course so that I could teach English as a foreign language. I’m guessing that this service is pretty common in Mallorca so any advice on other courses that may be better to gain work or what TEFL rates are like in Mallorca would be very much welcome!
Think that covers enough for post # one. Thanks all for your help and look forward to joining you over there at some stage
