Default Made me laugh

Just watched the cooking channel. It was a lesson on cooking English food. Sheherds Pie, fish and chips, and breakfast were fairly OK. Then came the Sunday roast, it consisted of sirloin, gravy made purely with red wine, peas in butter and mashed potatoes. No other veg and not a roast potato or yorkshire pudding in sight!!!!

Thought that it would make you smile.

and maybe another laugh is how many Brits cook a Sunday roast now? (or cook fish and chips at home!)

Yes, I cook full Sunday dinner at home most Sundays including roast spuds and Yorkshire puds!!

Didn't used to cook much but since buying a Ninja air fryer I've become a bit obsessed with cooking cakes, quiche and all manner of pies and pastries..........

And best thing of all, I'm not bothered about those extra couple of pounds I've put on 😋 Enjoy......

One of our first roasts out in a sort of pub here in NZ arrived with mashed mystery which turned out to be pumpkin. Waited a bit and then finally politely said they had forgotton the roast potatoes and also the yorkshires.
Met with unfriendly blank stares and told it was New Zealand. Best in the world at roasts. We named them the not roast roasts

One thing that I forgot to mention is that this is on Spanish television. Spanish chef, his programmes on the channel are supposed to be teaching people all about food and includes international recipes. Today happened to be English food.

You might be surprised! I don't cook much, but both of those are favourites when I do attack the kitchen.

Impossible here in Italy to get a roast dinner, fish & chips, Yorkshire puddings and parsnips so I've learned to make my own ----- except the parsnips. Some Brits have tried growing them but without much luck. I do cheat with the gravy sometimes and have some Bisto in the cupboard. I live in polenta land so that's used a lot where we'd have roast spuds or Yorkshires.

But have you seen what the Brits have done to Tagliatelle al ragu.Instead of slow cooking the pork, beef and sausages in a WHITE wine base with a soffritto and a rich tomato sauce they get some cheap beef mince throw in a spoonful of tomato paste and some RED wine before serving it with bland overcooked Spaghetti .They are having a laugh. And then they have the temerity to claim that it came from Bologna.Porca Miseria!!!!

I refuse to believe you cannot grow them in Italy. Especially Vicenza.
Parsnips are the one seed that you cannot keep for next year. They just don't germinate! Need to buy new.
In Spanish they are called "chirivia", but in the Basque country, they're unknown.
This year I discovered a new way of growing them: make a series of deep holes, say 6" and fill them with potting compost. Place the thin parsnip seed on top, press in a bit, cover, water and babysit for about a month till they germinate. Magic. from then on. keep well watered without overdoing it.

Got to agree nothing wrong with a bit of well cooked good English food, it's like any other countries food some good some not so good. Sometimes I get a craving for nice roast meat veg and gravy, don't need or eat it all the time. Horses for courses as they say.
