Can I order my own sky card from sky(or get my mum to do it from her uk landline) and send it over here so I can get her to control it and avoid these agency fees set by the agents that work between Sky and spanish sky installation shops????

Advice?

Yes you can!
They are not agents for Sky. They are somehow able to obtain the cards, but if Sky finds out they will have something to say on the matter!!
Many threads on here about it, but technically, Sky are not allowed to broadcast outside of the UK, so it follows that there are no agents apart from in the UK.

I think the best person to answer that is Thesatandpcguy! I am sure that the card cannot be tied to the box until it is in place though.

I've a paid for Sky combo with a chap (whose cards come from a UK region no use to me...) anyway, someone just wised us up to the possibility most of these channels (maybe CNN?CNBC? Bloomberg?not) are available free... but how do I double check before cutting the contract?

hi
sorry for the delay, just got in and still on catchup from strom damage repairs and realignments!

it is not wise to use a spanish CC, as this is one of the flags that are highlighted on the sky system.

maybe you could use your mums bank details and just send here the money every few months...???

you will need the details of the sky box (service 4 5 , and the packages / mixes you want.

have sent you a pm with a few more specifics..

Almost certainly will, & thanks. Was going to pm you but thought there may just be a few out there who are as ignorant as I am re sat stuff.... so here goes nothing! If I can get out of my contract but retain my Sky card, (assume I can, cos the contract is for a certain package of channels?) which will I be getting? Freesat or freesatfromsky or Sky? I haven't looked at your link yet, thought I'd better know what I was looking at!
Thanks again:)

if cancelled correctly ex sub cards revert to a freesatfrom sky card....

if cancelled incorrcetly (ie "hi sky i am in spain" or you just cancel your dd) then the card can be cancelled totally and may not revert to a FSFS card.

however i am not too sure if ex sub cards will be replaced in the forthcoming sky card change...maybe it is worth hanging on to your sub until they do so (it is meant to be around march april time)...

you can cancel your sky as long as the 12 month minimum period has expired. you may still get the channels for a few days after your cncel date as it all depends on your payment date and "How far in advance" you have paid for...

Thanks. Ok last question & I'll disappear & leave the thread to revert:o
.... Everything you said above, does that apply whether it's a direct me + Sky contract or me & A Bloke in Spain doing Sky type contract?

you may find that if your sky is via an agent, then your card may be totally cancelled and may not become a fsfs card...it depends on how the agent cancels the card...as he may call sky up for a replacement card,m that will be sent to the agents address, which means your card will be totally deactivated...

I'm now a happy chap thanks to a visit from an engineer who I would recommend if anyone wants to contact me. My problem wasn't to do with alignment but a faulty LNB and perished cabling. All replaced and back to normal with the added benefit that I can now receive stations that I couldn't before. There are still some professionals out there. Thanks for all the advice I've received.

Re: LOSS OF BBC AND ITV CHANNELS ON SKY

Just to go back to the original question about losing channels at certain times of the day, I have a 1.4 mt (Portuguese?) dish and a quad Invacom LNB, and I get BBC2 and C4 from about 11:00 am until the early hours of the morning, after my bedtime so not sure exactly when.

This seems to be the opposite to what I've read in this and other forums i.e. most say that they loose these channels at about 6:00 pm.

Can anyone explain this? satandpcguy perhaps?

PCsatguy will of course may correct me on this.

You can google the astra 2d footprint which will give u an accruate answer

yes small the dish get as you go north from Benidorm look at http://www.satandpcguy.com/Site/Sky.htm Sky Reception In Spain

ASTRA satellite fleet are now lower power than DBS, FSS satellites require a much larger dish for receptionout side there country intented Astra2d TWTA output power: 39W wich is very low compary two it sister satellites at 28 east TWTA output power: 98W - 120w

put this way how far can you see a 25 watt bulb and how far can you see 100watt bulb ?
