It's cheaper to use Google translate or just figure it out. My Spanish is near zero and I can figure it out. Lobsters cheapest deal is 12 Euro for 12GB. Digi give me 60GB for 12 Euro

Digi all the way. Calls to almost 60 countries around the world included, lots of GB, etc. Support is great and you can quickly have a chat with them via the app. Even the *100# menu can be set to English though it's mainly used to check your balance/usage (something that can be done in the app anyway).

Simyo is good too, especially if you manage a couple of numbers for the entire family. Very easy to keep on top of things, customise a plan for everyone according to their needs, set limits or notifications... and all this from probably the best mobile app in Spain.

That's the thing about Vodafone, you won't have any service issues with them. It's very reliable but you really pay for it. The only problems I had were related to the small print, like charging 15 Euro per day for roaming outside the EU. I mean just switching the phone on, data switched off, to receive a text message. They also restarted my handcuffs deal whenever I asked them to change the deal to the deal I signed up for.

Digi are using the Movistar network, at least for the fiber. Not sure about the cellphone network but it seems pretty good so far at a fraction of the cost.

€40 per month just for your mobile, so €480 every year just for one number? Ouch. Someone mentioned that Vodafone isn't doing so well here financially but with these prices I'm finding that hard to believe. :)

The 'unlimited data and calls' plan with Digi (their top tier plan) costs €25/mth. And this includes international calling to 59 countries, including the UK (both landlines and mobiles). Plus you are on the best network as they use Movistar's infrastructure. Personally I only pay €10/mth for 10GB and 400 minutes (incl. int'l calls) as this is all I need, but for €25 you can go for the unlimited option.

I started off with Vodafone but ended up dumping them after two months. Moved to Orange which was better. Then moved to Simyo (owned by Orange but HEAPS better!). Then moved one of our family numbers (mine - the rest will remain on Simyo) to Digi and everything is perfect now.

I came across this recently for anyone who has unlimited or credited minutes on a Spanish phone. It allows you to use you free national Spanish minutes to call the UK very cheaply. I have it on my phone which gives me unlimited national calls in Spain. I called family in the UK the other day for just over 8 minutes for 3 cents. Perfect call quality as it is via mobile rather than internet . May be useful for some people certainly does what I need.

Agreed it may be useful for some people and moremins are legitimate but these days in Spain I can't see why anyone would need to pay anything to phone the UK using their existing mobile deal or at worse by upgrading it for less than they currently pay.

Why ?

1. Most deals now offer at least some data so as long as the person they are phoning is using a mobile in the UK it is free using whatapp/messenger etc.

2. A good few deals now offer free international calls.

For instance for 5 e a month ( actually 28 days on this offer) you can get 1gb of data and 100 minutes of national and international calls or for 10e 10gb of data and 400 mins of national and international calls.
Whilst it won't be a good deal for many here it is worth noting you can now get unlimited gigas at "full speed" and "unlimited" international and national calls for 25 e a month.

Yes I would generally agree. We tend to use what's app or messenger for calling family etc. However one close family member only has mobile Internet and although she has unlimited UK calls limited Internet usage. So more minutes for very little cost allows me to call her UK mobile number using my unlimited spanish minutes. Also its useful if I need to call say HMRC or other UK companies that don't have option of WhatsApp etc. Iin the past I used viber for that via WiFi without too much issue but now and again Internet would buffer or drop and I would lose my connection, with more mins there's the option of using Internet or local mobile minutes. I am actually a very infrequent phone user so this is ideal for me, I thought it may be a possible solution to others with similar phone needs. I was on an Internet package which was provided by an antena system and used to have a seperate payg package with Hits which together cost around 42 Euros a month. I recently moved to mains Fibre Internet which is both faster and more reliable with it I get a mobile sim unlimited Spanish National calls land-line or mobile and 5 gb data per month for 29 Euros per month total. This allows me to use more mins for my infrequent UK calls using my unlimited national minutes at very little extra cost. I put the minimum 4 euro annual top up on more mins and I would think that will cover my infrequent UK calls. Works for me.

More praise for Digi; We went to Germany and the Netherlands for the weekend. No roaming issues in Germany but a minor blip in the Netherlands as it wouldn't connect to a carrier. We connected to wifi on the tram and opened the chat function on the app. Instant response from them advising us to disable the automatic carrier selection feature on the phone. A minor annoyance but that's par for the course when comparing The Netherlands with Germany.

Wow, just launched the Digi app to check my data usage so far and it seems my current tariff has been upgraded from 10GB to a whopping 20GB/mth. And all this still for the same price of €10.

Well spotted. I just checked mine and they're giving me 100GB for 12 Euro and 20GB for 6 Euro, that's with the discount applied for having fiber with them as well. According to the installer they're going for 10GB for the same price or cheaper in Valencia and Barcelona this year, unlikely in that order though.

Simyo has pulled the plug on free roaming in the UK from the 27th of July (1 month from now). So that's a little bit more control taken back.

Yet another case of brexitism causing harm to ordinary people like you and I.

Did Simyo inform you about this or did you find out about it by chance?

Digi still include the UK under their EU roaming deal, for now. I read that you can get an eSIM for pay as you go in the UK with Three. I had a quick Google search and drew a blank though. It's a pain to need another provider but it could be a good workaround.
