Is there any service provider that has the same option as giffgaff in the UK? one that gives you the option to change plan whenever you want without a contract?

Lobster does that.

Lobster is Ok, uses one of the main carriers (I think its moviestar) but dont quote me.
We live in a village 10km inland of Altea and the signal is pretty good.

In Alicante (City) and around you should have no issues with signal strength.

Putting Lobster aside for a moment, do any of the main carriers have a setting where you can set all operator messages/voicemail system/etc. to be in English?

... and all the other languages in the world?

Nah, this is Spain, why would they?

Was just hoping on the off chance that Vodafone or Orange might have this option, both carriers ultimately being part of large foreign entities.

Funny thing is that on the Vodafone web site you don't even see the option to see an English language version, even though Vodafone is a huge UK-based corporation. Yet Orange, a French company, does offer an English-language version of its site here in Spain!

Pity that you cannot switch the operator SMS messages to English though...

I have praised the service I get from Movistar on here before. Yesterday our fibre system failed. Using their “Mi Movistar” app I reported the fault. They tried to fix it remotely and kept me informed of progress about 3 times by SMS. Eventually they diagnosed it as a faulty router. A new router was delivered first thing this morning. Just plugged it in and everything back to normal.

I've just been looking at Movistar with a view to changing from Vodafone, good to see some praise. Vodafone is very good but their customer service is shocking.

Mind if I ask a few questions? If you do mind ignore the rest ;-)
Have you got the TV pack with them? Trying to decide if it's worth it. We have HBO with Vodafone and rarely watch it but noticed their package includes some BBC programming, including Vigil.

Do you have the mobiles with them as well and if so what kind of speeds do you get, I see it's only 4G (maybe I'm wrong)? With Voda I generally get 50 down 20 up in the city but have had 345 down 20 up at the beach.

For fixed line speed you already mentioned it's great.

I do have the TV box and basic (free) package, but I have never even turned it on. You get the TV box whether you want it or not.

Yes I have 2 mobile contracts. The first has 200 mins a month to mobiles, the second charges for all calls. Both have 20gb of data. Speeds depend on location but I can get 150mb in a good location.

As for the fibre connection, you can have 300mb or 1gb. The difference is about €6.

Great, thanks for that. Re the 4G/5G difference, in that case it's the same as deciding if a Fiat is faster than a Ferrari in a traffic jam. 150 is very good

I had a problem with my Vodafone connection two weeks ago on a Friday evening. They did a remote diagnostic and a technician was there at 9.00 on the Saturday morning to fix it. Downspeed 300: Upspeed 100. I'm happy with them.

I can't knock the actual service. I've always been loyal to them as I used to work for them but it's a case of fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

My issue is with the customer service team dealing with accounts. I spotted an error on my bill at the beginning of the year where they were charging for something not in the contact, a problem with the guy in the shop who added something I hadn't signed up for. When they rectified it they renewed the contract and I've been trying for weeks to get them to wind the clock back to the original date.

"Location, location, location" when it comes to phones. Where I'm at I ended up with Orange due to superior coverage plus they have very decent customer service where you can call a special number to get support in English.

For fibre you're probably best off with Movistar looking at the offfers. I think they might even run the show when it comes to fibre with the rest basically being sub-contractors of sorts. Vodafone was a joke when I even attempted to sign up, showing one offer on their site and then completely different prices when I started the online order process. Glad I went back to Movistar and stuck with them for home broadband.
