Welcome to the forum
I moved your post to Spain, where you will get more feedback. I cant help you with that specsavers. I used the one in Javea and they were quite bad. I had to take my glasses back repeatedly before they were OK, and then in 12 months the colour off the frames all came away |

I went back to them and showed them only to be told that it was my fault! I asked what the coating was meant to do if not protect them and they just said 'tough'. Mmmmm. Not good and niot very good customer service. Anyone any other recommendation? I've asked in the usual shops (spanish opticians) but they want to charge me nearly 3 or 4 times as much just for one pair - I simply couldn't afford that! |

I've also had a bad experience with specsavers in Javea. I bought a pair of specs with an anti-scratch coating.

I was going to try them as I'd been to Specsavers in the UK and needed new contact lenses - however, my neighbour told me the opticians by Iceland, miramar, Fuengirola was better so I went there (easier to park, do other shopping etc) and they've been great. I have my new lenses in and they were much cheaper than I anticipated too!!! Jo xxx |
Re: Life in Spain.
I've not used them personally but a friend went there for some multifocals as they had previously used Specsavers in the UK.
They had to go back 3 times and have them remade as they just weren't right. Eventually they gave up, got their money back and went elsewhere. |
Re: Life in Spain.
OH had some from the Fuengirola branch. Seemed ok but when he played golf sais they were distorted when he looked down and had to use some old ones. He finally got some more at another place. I thought it may have been him just whinging but not so sure after reading this:confused:

Re: Life in Spain.
Try Glasses direct online, you 'll need a Uk address though as they won't post abroad, everyone I know who uses them, praises them:thumbup:

Re: Life in Spain.
My OH goes to General Optica, has her whole life and never had any problems

Re: Life in Spain.
I get my contacts mail order from Specsavers in UK - they mail them for 5 GBP. They are about 40% less than Speccies Javea & when I saw their ad saying they were cheap, went in & queried it. The words off & fobbed spring to mind!
I'd avoid unless you are minted & not bothered. |
Re: Life in Spain.
specsavers are the same over europe, i have a good guy in hastings who mends my specs every couple of weeks cos they are so rubbish..........
so much so, i decided to look into getting my eyes lazered................... |
Re: Life in Spain.
If you are working in the holiday industry (bar work etc) you will not earn much money, i would just treat it as as working holiday (good experience anyway)

Re: Life in Spain.
I am the Director of Specsavers in Javea
We operate a 3 month no quibble guarantee in all of our stores, and in addition a guarantee on both lenses and frames. In most cases it is very obvious if a lens has been scratched due to misuse, or has a faulty coating. The same with frames. Anti-scratch lenses have a treatment, a hard coating, that makes them 80% less likely to scratch with normal day to day treatment - that is, ensuring there is no grit or dirt on the lens by using a spray or water to remove the particles before you clean them. If there is any doubt about the cause of a defect,we will always decide in the customers favour and put the problem right with as minimal inconvenience to the customer as possible. We deal with every case individually, and are totally committed to ensure that the customer is satisfied with the action we take to resolve any issues. I am available either in person or over the telephone if you are unhappy in any way with either the product or service, and can be contacted directly on 965835367. |

No, you don't offer anything of the kind OR decide in the customers favour. You sell frames which by your own staffs comments are not fit for use in this country. You fob people off with ridiculous claims. I heard it before I came to you, but didnt take the advice. Silly old me!

Re: Life in Spain.
It's very difficult to answer your comments without the name and file, so as I said previously, I can look into your individual circumstances if you contact me.
As you know, I am sure, I cannot discuss your individual details online. The store telephone number in Calpe is 965835367 and my mobile number if you would prefer is 618595762. I cannot trace you through your expat name on this website. If you would like to resolve this issue, contact me. Mike Stone |
Re: Life in Spain.
Mike, it's been several years .... I'm getting ready now for another test and glasses.
I'm sure if you had been involved, something would have happened .... but your staff .. well ..... three times I think I took the glasses back because I knew they were wrong, and it was eventually the manager that realised they were set at the wrong angle and hadn't been fitted properly Then after 8 months I noticed the colouring from the frames started to come off ... and the store assistant told me that it was sweat that caused it and there was nothing you would do. Apparently your metal frames aren't good when people sweat. Even though none of the frame actually touches the face anywhere. Your store assistant suggested I should get some different frames when I came back next time, although she said she did realise that I probably wouldn't use you again anyway. Shame really .... but you aren't going to do anything after all this time now are you. when they wouldn't do anything at the time Anyway, enough said |
Re: Life in Spain.
Enough said Mitzy.
From what has been said on here and various reports I have heard myself, it seems that specsavers are crap, both regarding quality and after-sales service. Whats more if they offered a no quibble guarantee as they claim, you'd have had your money back long ago. Not to worry, once bitten twice shy. |

May be I should go somewhere else now as well. |
Re: Life in Spain.
Uuum? Quite a contrast from my experience with SS here in UK, three of our family have used them for years now, and I have to say from the girl on the desk to the optician's themselves, they have all been excellent, nothing is too much trouble. Problem is, it's a franchise, so I guess the service could differ from branch to branch, perhaps we are just lucky ith our local branch.

Re: Life in Spain.
I have to say I used Specsavers in the UK for years, and with no real problems. I have a complicated prescription, so I always expect to pay a lot. Afaik, the Specsavers shops here are a franchise. As with many things, you cant judge one the same as another

Specsavers operates most of their stores under a system which is called the 'Joint or Shared Venture Partnership'. This is similar to a franchise agreement between Specsavers and the franchisee; however, unlike many franchises, Specsavers stores work under the policy that 'any Specsavers customer is our customer', thereby meaning that a customer from one branch of Specsavers can expect to get equal service from another branch elsewhere. It also differs in that Specsavers own shares in the franchisee business rather than just providing goods and services under a franchise agreement. In newer territories such as Sweden, Norway and Spain, they operate a normal franchise agreement. |

I always thought UK was a straight franchise agreement, but it seems it is slightly different, although Spain is a straight franchise.

Re: Life in Spain.
Going back to the original post, the one in Fuengirola has a good testing service, and after sales service.
Maybe the original problems are caused where they make the glasses, in the UK ? PS, I will be asking for a discount next time I go in. ;);) |

In which case the quality is always down to the individual franchisee, although the system will (should) always be the same.

Yes, and I guess they all use the same, or similar laboratories, so the product should be much the same, but the personnel in each branch can make a big difference.

I have been a regular customer since they opened around 3 or 4 years ago, and have always been impressed by the quality of frames, excellent value for money and professionalism of the staff. The shop floor staff are always friendly, polite and are keen to help. Quite simply, they cannot do enough for me, when I go in there. Mitsyboy, I find your comments difficult to believe. However, as you admitted, it was several years ago! fancy wingeing about something that happened so long ago. Some people are not happy unless they are complaining about something.
as recently as a few weeks ago soem people new to the town were bemoaning the standards & service to me - they used them because they speak english there & the people aren't confident enough with their spanish to chance a spanish optician sad really, when most of the spanish opticians around here speak good english, give a great service & reasonable prices just curious - why would you use specsavers in Jávea for all those years when according to your other posts, less than a year ago you weren't even living here:confused: |

Vested interest perhaps ? In any event it's a free world for everyone to express their honest opinions whether they agree with yours or not. |
