Leaving Spain. Why!

Gee what made me type that.? I haven't long woke up
My girlfriend has used agencies before, although this was before she moved to Spain 4 years ago and things were a little better and she got work straight away.We didn't find jobs from their website though and actually went into their offices (it wasnt REED though, it was a local Newcastle firm)though I do agree with what you are sayin.

Its just been announed that Spain has a 13.4% unemployment rate, one of the highest by far in the eurozone. Now there is 3m unemployed in a national population of 40m.this is expected to rise to a whopping 20% this year.
The uk is now at 7.2% and just over 2m out of work with 60m in the country.
Sometimes I cant understand why people in the UK tell us to stay in spain and ride the storm. I have to look for work this week in Benidorm and to be honest im not looking forward to it. The plan is to still go back if I cant get at least fulltime work but my opinion is although it is constantly being announced on the news that companies are going into administration if you look at it Spain's unemployment ratio is just under double the uk.
How can people say its better over here?
Thoughts?

Well, like so many terms it needs defining carefully. If you are on a fixed income, retired, with a cash nest egg and or a pension then Spain is better in a lot of ways.
If not, well, it depends if and where you can get work. Me, I earn in the UK and spend it in Spain.

I doubt most people who have moved to Spain have done so thinking they were going to have an amazing career, earn loads of money and go back to UK and retire. If someone is looking for that, they've come to the wrong place.
As regards to the employment figures, this can be a bit misleading. Of all the 'unemployed' Spanish people I know in my town, I'd say actually 90% of them are working, just not declaring their earnings.
It's difficult here, but from what I can gather, it's difficult in most places at the moment. If you haven't got family or contacts here, it can be even worse.

Real unemployment in the UK is MUCH higher than stated. Lots of people are not included. Better to look at of working age but economically inactive plus unemployed. Successive Governments have fiddled the figures, but they total about 8 million economically inactive. Add that to the 2 million unemployed and the other million who are expected to lose their jobs this year and you will see why the picture is not that rosy.
Now of course the majority of those economically inactive do not intend to find a job. Some are carers, some housewives and househusbands, some just about retired. Some are disabled. (I am not sure how many students are included, as I think that people under 21 are not counted as unemployed anyway).
But the Government is making very threatening noises (as are the Conservatives) about forcing a reassessment on all classed as disabled which it is estimated could force another million on to the unemployment figures.
If you add that little lot up, you are pretty close to the 13 percent already. By the end of the year, if the doomsters are right, it could be closer to 16 or 17.

Personally, I think the media are hyping it, and actually things will start picking up. Baroness Vadera has been ridiculed for suggesting that there are green shoots, but whatever you think of the comment, this is a VERY clever, experienced and knowledgeable woman. I would back her over Robert Peston any day.
So chin up Spain boy. With a bit of luck things will pan out. Certainly for someone who is plainly as hardworking as you. Best of British!

Good post. All too often people go to Spain (or other countries) with the old rose tinteds on. Reality soon bites, and then they look back thru the self same deceiving glasses.
Best of luck Spainboy, and I hope you make it work. Should you consider returning to the UK, do as I suggest and look long and hard.

The first thing you will need is a CV in Spanish. It depends what work you want to do, but it's most likely that they are looking for people to work in Spanish companies. That said, I'm only speaking from experience of Huelva (capital), where there are few Brits.

Because I live in Benidorm it might not be the case.My friend just told me he used Adecco 5 years ago and they found him full time bar work in a hotel so it may be worth a try. This is the last roll of the dice I guess, even if unemployment works out as bad as here I guess I would still have more chance in the uk basically because I speak the same language.
I think we can all agree that spanish nationals will always have preference which makes it damn site even harder for a brit to get work in this resession.
