Leaving Spain - deregistering

Re: Leaving Spain - deregistering
Thanks everyone.
It doesn't seem to be as staightforward as I thought.
Do I need an appointment to deregister from Padron (I made it anyway, in a different one to where I was registered though cos there were no appointments)?
With Social Security - where do I go to deregister - my medical centre or INSS?
Thanks

Re: Leaving Spain - deregistering
Once you have proved that you are no longer a Spanish resident and are now a permanent UK resident, the Department for Works & Pensions (whose records show that you are currently resident in Spain), will contact the Spanish health service and tell them that your form E121/A1 should be cancelled from the date you returned to the UK.

Re: Leaving Spain - deregistering
I'm not sure how much it matters but to deregister your residencia you need to personally attend the relevant office with all your documents, and plenty of copies and the kindly funcionario will check and stamp everything before filling out the deregistration form, which has a section for you to give your reasons, in Spanish, for wishing to leave such a friendly country. If you find it a struggle, 'familia' is most used.
Two or three weeks later you will be asked to attend the office to collect your 'leaving' certificate.
This is the procedure for the south of the Alicante province.
A lot of people don't bother.

Oh, and thank you snicpoh, it should read E121/S1 (finger trouble again, A & S next to one another on the keyboard).

3. Contact your Local Counter Fraud Specialist
GP practices should report suspected false registrations to their Local Counter Fraud Specialist (LCFS), giving as much detail as possible. Details of these patients can then be circulated and all related incidents can be collated by the NHS CFS to identify serial offenders.
Please note that contacting your LCFS with any suspicions of this nature will not breach the Data Protection Act as section 29 (3) of the Act allows for the release of information for the ‘prevention and detection of crime’.
Your Local Counter Fraud Specialist is Ian Halliwell and can be contacted on 07771390553 or emailed at [email protected]
Alternatively, information can be given to a confidential NHS Fraud and Corruption Reporting Line (FCRL) by phoning 0800 0284060. The FCRL is a freephone number and a simple means of reporting concerns about NHS fraud. It allows NHS staff who are unsure of internal reporting procedures or who wish to speak with complete confidentiality to report their concerns. All
calls are dealt with by experienced, trained staff and callers may remain anonymous if they wish. Alternatively, you can report online at
www.reportnhsfraud.nhs.uk
The following are indicators that a patient may not be genuine:
They cannot produce ID.
They cannot supply details of previous GP and address (the previously declared
GP or surgery can be contacted where there is suspicion of fraud).
They have recently returned from abroad or moved into the area.
They have asked for an emergency appointment.
This is page 3 of a 4 page document sent to all GPs by the NHS Counter Fraud Service (the bottom section is the relevent part). Our surgery wanted proof that we were no longer Spanish residents before they would accept us on their books. Can you imagine trying to get Spain to confirm this from the UK, it would take for ever!
lutonlad & jackytoo - did you notice the word "Fraud" in "NHS Counter Fraud Service"?
Neptuno (post41) - E21/S1 (got it right this time), covers you, until it is cancelled by the Department of Works & Pensions.

does it still cover you if you hand in your medical card a week before you leave and then you become ill or have an accident before you finally leave?

But if you had already handed in your medical card, surely you are deregistering from the Spanish health system;how would you prove the DWP were still covering you up to the date they cancel?

He isn't doing a very good job judging by the millions spent treating health tourists.

I haven't got anything wrong. This thread was about signing off the padrón and that's what I was refering to. What scaremongoring are you going to come up with next. A letter of apology for leaving Spain
We didn't do amything on leaving except pay dues and close bank account. Walked into GP surgery in UK. filled out form and provided them with 2 utility bills...sorted!

J2 is quite correct.
This is from people who have done it and have taken the proper advice
You seem to just highlight what you want to rather than focus on the original issue ... apart from citing fraud when there is none and warning people that they could be arrested and detained
