Spanish I could have managed but my command of Portuguese is more limited.

I did email my local Spanish branch rep yesterday. I've not had a reply yet but am now able to go straight to my account without being requested to enter proof of ID so hopefully any problems with the system have been sorted.

Logged in to Sabadell this morning. The following message was in my account inbox.

Due to legal requirements, we require a copy of your identity card or
equivalent document in force. You can stop by our offices
or send it by email to: *******************
Otherwise operations will be restricted as from 30 Sept.'14

Seems like there is a trend here.

We have just been through this with La Caixa. We have a joint account and my wifes passport had just expired and so they wanted a copy of the new passport for their records. Suprisingly, they are on the ball. You must go to your local branch in person where they will take a copy.

Just had a similar request from Barclays International. Not only do they want proof of ID, but address and evidence of economic activity, eg pay slips etc. Bloody cheek I call it. What right does a bank have to know all my business?

Logged in to La Caixa this morning and got another request for financial information. In English this time. Haven't a clue what they are asking for and when a clicked on the link it failed to find the form they want completed. Why do the banks and governments have to lump everyone in with the "real" criminals? All I process is the occasional credit top up for my direct debits. By the way, I know why they do it but it's irritating and must cost them a fortune to administer.

Hi Steve
I just had another request from LA Caixa to phone the branch ( don't fancy that ) my Spanish isn't that good
I assume we have the same branch in Ayamonte , we are going out in a few weeks so I will go into town to submit my passport for their records I will see if there are any other details they require & let you know.
If I can get an email address out of them I will forwards it to you as I know you cant get out there in person

Best
Chris

I did write near the beggining of this thread that we took our Passports to our local Caixa, all she asked was where our money came fom she then "ticked" the pensioner box.
