La Caixa - Electronic documentation request

Hi
Since last week I'm getting a request to enter documentation electronically when I log in to my La Caixa account each day. I think this is to do with money laundering.

I've selected the passport option and have sent scanned copies of page 1 and 2of my passport. The system accepts this and I can then access my account but get the same request the next day.

Can anyone throw any light on this and let me know if I'm doing the correct thing?

Thanks

Steve

That's odd. I just logged on without anything like that. Mine is a resident's account.

My current passport expires mid August. Is it possible they want an updated copy for their records?

Steve

I would be very surprised if they noticed that.

Hi Steve
I have just logged into my La Caixa account & have had to supply the same info.
I have also logged in again after re-booting my PC & it went straight to my account, so I will try it again tomorrow see what happens & let you know if I have to supply my passport again
Best
Chris

Erm, this sounds fishy.

According to OECD regulations, electronically-supplied identity documentation is not an acceptable form of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_your_customer for banks. It's much too easy to forge an alternate identity that way.

I have always been required to personally deliver original identification document for copy at any bank. It's very odd they'd ask you to send it electronically, because legally, it's worth less than the bits used to carry it.

I'd go to the bank and ask if I were you. Nothing to lose that way.

We have a residents account and have not been asked for this. However we have received a letter, emails and warnings at the cashpoint to say that we had to supply information on IVA and our renta to conforrm with autonomo and money laundering. I had to take everything to the office and was issued with a certificate to say that La Caixa had seen the documents according to whichever law it applied to. The lady at the desk said that they were reviewing all accounts and that it was a one off request this year to ensure that all their accounts were up to scrutiny.

I'm not sure its the same thing, but the last couple of weeks we have got access to online banking with Santander. We can check our account, look at balances etc, but we cannot undertake transactions of any kind.

For this we need to set up an electronic 'signature' this can only be done by calling in at the bank branch in which our account is held.

We have had this today with Caixa and are going in to see them in the morning, have no wish to send personal details over the internet.

Hi Steve
I have just tried to log on & also had to supply my passport again, so it does seem to be a daily process ,how boring.
I can only assume their IT people haven't set the programme up properly ( now there's a surprise )
The only additional info I had to supply was my passport are you having to supply any thing else ?

We walked into our local branch this morning all she wanted was the passport, all done and sorted, much easier than faffing with the internet

I will do exactly the same in September on our next visit , I don't check the account everyday so it can wait until then

I don't have a local branch in West Sussex and as my wife is ill at the moment and is having hospital treatment I can't get to Spain.

Hi Chris

I got the same again this morning.

I think I have an up to date email for the Ayamonte branch so will try them to see if it helps.

Thanks

Re: La Caixa - Electronic documentation request

I have just tried to logged on to my account and was able to access it OK without any request for additional documentation: which is a good job as I would have struggled to understand it as although the website started in English when it logged me in it changed to Portuguese. Spanish I could have managed but my command of Portuguese is more limited.
