No, he, and others on here, are just ensuring that people like the OP are aware of the laws in Spain regarding this. If they decide to ignore what has been said and take a chance, then they can't come crying to this forum saying they weren't aware of the laws.

You will find things changing now though as the councils are losing all there building licence monies, so will resort to getting it from other places.

All that is immaterial, the law here is the law, and no poster on here should be encouraging, in any way, anyone to break the laws. People asking the questions must be given the correct and legal information, it is up to them whether they take to offered advice r ignore it, but at least they can't saythey were not made aware of the laws, and the possible outcomes of ignoring them.

Can you keep a UK car in Spain forever if you have Spanish plates on it? Or is that not allowed either?

What happens if you have a personal number plate in the UK and want to take your car over there and live there. I guess you have to give the plate up and can't keep it on the car?

If it has been re registered, then it is classed as a Spanish car and can be kept here as long as it runs. No private plates in Spain, so your UK one would have to go. When you re register then you are given new Spanish number plates and you just get the next number on the list.

I think the solution there would be to transfer the plate to a moped, store it somewhere secure and declare it off road.

Go onto the link I posted on the other post and download form V526 this tells you all about numbers you want to keep and you have to change them before it leaves the UK otherwise you have lost it..

Thanks

I read something earlier in the thread about having to take your car back to the UK to be mot'd - I'm assuming this is only if you keep it on UK plates? Is there an mot equivalent in Spain?

It`s called an ITV and you will get the first one done with the registration, timespan varies with age and type of vehicle, there is also road tax but minimal compared to the UK.

But! Have a read of the free beer thread, and do a search as there have been many, many threads on here about it.
Basically, if you are coming here to live and bringing your car, It has to be taxed, mot'd and insured in the UK, and you have a maximum of 3 months to put it onto Spanish plates.

Put the plate on retention whilst in the UK,you will then be given a normal reg,you cant put it on moped or bike ,only another car, when on retention you just pay an anual fee to keep ownership of that reg,

Rgds
