Default ITV/Insurance questions

My car is sooooo old now, I am unsure if it will pass the ITV...

The ITV and the insurance are both due for renewal on the 13th, if I take the car for its ITV on the 12th and it fails, I will leave it be till next year as I don't have the cash and I drive my car about 4 times a year! (we have another car and motorbikes, we only keep my car as an emergency car in case the other breaks down)...

Is this ok to do?

Plus, this would mean that I would leave the car off the road until early next year, so would I be ok not renewing the insurance for a while?

Even if the car passes, can I leave it off the road and not renew the insurance until next year? (money is very tight at the moment)

ps. No point selling the car, would only get a grand at the most as it looks a state (it got all its panels keyed a few years back), but the engine is good so is worth hanging onto...

Help!

I seem to remember something about all cars must be insured even if not in use.

I don't think Spain have a SORN like the UK.

Anyone know more about this?

Can't afford a gestor

The car is taxed and if it passes the ITV I'll have the car fully legal...... apart from insurance....

Anyone else know if I can park the car off the road, and leave it uninsured for a few months?

I would imagine that if you mean park it off road i.e. garage/private land it would not need insurance but anywhere where public have access you would need insurance.

I was surprised when I was told that even cars kept off the road needed insurance - anyone know definitively?

Yes, you can keep a car off the road without insurance. Certain insurance companies try to get you to renew your policy using this tactic. Told my insurance company to report me to the police, 3 years and still no sign! Baja Temporal just means you will not have road tax to pay for the time the vehicle is off the road, but if you did the baja now you would still be liable for this years tax and if you put the car back on the road next year you'd then be liable for next years tax. I own and race a Spanish registered car which is baja temporal and uninsured as gets trailered to circuits. I have been stopped by the Guardia and all they wanted was the docs for the towing vehicle and trailer, they weren't interested in the race car at all.

Great advice thanks!

Well it passed the iTV today, so I've the weekend to decide what to do with the insurance....

I'll still pay the tax as it is such as small amount there is no point in not!
