ITV for ex hire cars
I looked at a used car just over 2 years old at a dealer and noticed it had needed an ITV after 2 years from first registration instead of the usual 4. I know this applies to cars which have been used for self drive hire. The dealer said that it hadn't been used for self drive hire but was an "ex lease car", driven by 1 or 2 drivers only. Apparently the same rule about ITV after 2 years applies to ex lease cars. I am a bit dubious about this and I do not want to buy an ex self drive car. Any suggestions for sources of information on this ?

My current car is an ex hire car purchased at 2yrs old and its first ITV was due at 4yrs as is normal.

I am (was....) fairly sure about the 2 year ITV thing. This car was definitely only just over 2 years old and it had an ITV - only for 1 year instead of the usual 2 .

For a hire car the ITV is at 2 years then yearly up to five years then every six months.

Re: ITV for ex hire cars
The dealer was trying to convince me that the car was an "ex-lease " car not an "ex self drive hire" car. Having investigated a bit more I think that an ex-leased car which was used for private use only does not need an ITV until 4 years. In other words if a car needs an ITV after 2 years it must have been used for self drive hire.
