[QUOTE=Wendy Nesbeth;4497023][QUOTE=spain;4496819]we did the same, came over and bought straight away - in hindsight I wish we had of rented first but everyone is different and circumstances vary wwhichmakes it difficult for anyone to tell you what to do

Yes we did the same, we lived in our apartment first & after 6 weeks we saw this villa & stupidly bought it, (over budget). We were still in the honeymoon period of being in Spain. Now I hate the villa, my husband won't sell it, so it is causing mega problems in our marriage.

As soon as the phone line is reconnected at the flat I am moving back there, where I feel safe.

A very sad situation after 36 years of a very happy marriage.

I feel for you. How stressful it must have all become for you. The marriage and dream being spoilt by bricks and mortar. Your 36 years together must be strong enough to overcome a building, I noticed that you do not say that you are moving completely away so surely there is still hope!!

Smarties , a few thoughts from me , for you to mull over !

What your experiencing is normal and to be honest you wouldnt be normal if you hadnt had a few panics..

If you are sure the area is the place for you then buy , Renting is dead money ! . If you are totaly sure its where u want to be .. If your not sure on the place then maybe rent a while , Only you know if you had a warm safe content feel in the area you chose..

You said what a superb deal you got on the villa so therefore the Worst case you will be able to resell it , and maybe even be ahead on the deal ? ...

You have just suffered a Panic Attack and then the brain fills up with all the what if this and what if thats !! Perfectly normal so relax look at the long term picture .. Quality life now before you are to old to enjoy it !

So grab a Real Ale put a relaxing CD in and dont Panic , you have to go through the pain to get the gain ..

ps i forgot what price the villa your buying was again ? But i remember you did some impressive negotiating ..

Hi Pete,

No the villa overhead costs are okay, basically the villa is detached & is far to big it is on an 800 square metre plot, there are no neighbors, as they are all holiday homes.

If anything happened to my husband or myself who would we call, there is no one around. That is why I feel safer in the flat where we have lovely neighbors.

I really think that I have said far too much. My problem is that I wear my heart on my sleave & I shouldn't do that.

I think I had better close this subject now.

Thank you all for listening to me.

Phew - glad it wasn't me got you thinking this way I think we are both in the same frame of mind at the moment - it is a big step isn't it and although at the time everything seems fine it's in the early hours of the morning when you wake thinking about it and then the doubts creep in Particularly when you have property to sell and you have to keep those balls in the air

When we are sat on our terrace in Spain with a drink in our hand looking out at the surrounding countryside on a lovely warm evening we will wonder what all the worries were for.

You are so right about looking back and wondering why you worried so much. We both suffered from terrible nightmares about the house falling down, burning down and being badly flooded. So much so that when we eventually arrived here my husband was shaking when he unlocked the door. One of our neighbours had stopped me to find out how long a holiday we were herefor so I had to explain in my terrible Spanish that we were here permanently and I must admit that I was wishing her further. He came back out with a beaming smile on his face and I breathed a sigh of relief, strange looks from all around but then again they had not been waking up in the middle of the night screaming.

Now we wonder what all the fuss was about and are able to laugh at the irrationality of our dreams.

Good Luck

Rosemary

Yup, eezy peeeeeezie init! I think God the me and Mrs Smarties have had so many chats (hehe) over this its unreal. For me my worry is all the sorting out to be done ie removals, handing over meter readings etc cos all this stuff falls to HIM. To be fair she has valid concerns over the sun factor cream she needs to get and I can understand her concerns

Hey...we are in the same boat! Except that I am the one who takes care of all the financial matters, phone calls, meter readings etc etc while Mr L checks out a few tunes on his guitar/banjo/sax

Trust me Mr S - we will be laughing about this in a few months time (we will - won't we )
