It seems to be on the Costa de la Luz, Huelva side (quick google). But that's the limit of my knowledge too

Try posting in "The Ayamonte Club" link at the top of the Spain page as this is where Isla Canala is.

More forum members with local knowledge there.

To be honest this is a forum for moving and living abroad. I would think you would have better luck on TA- It is a forum for vacations..

Isla Canela is part of Ayamonte which is the nicest seaside resort in Spain. IC is the seaside bit a proper Island accessable by bridge. The name translates as the Cinamon Isle and is where the Phonecians/Romans/Moors imported their spices into Spain. There is also a unique connection with Kent in that there was (now preserved) a tide driven flour mill.

There are lots of apartments for rent and some good hotels such as the Barcelo, RIU and Sunshine Spa the newest.

Isla Canela is situated 6 km south of Ayamonte. Ayamonte is at the border with Portugal, therefore closest airport is Faro, about one hour drive.

For apartment rentals: www.PlayasDeLaLuz.com
Car rentals: www.vostokcar.com
Bicycle rental: See my signature

Other activities: Beach, Paintball, Kitesurfing, Visit Sevilla, Visit Algarve, boattrips, fishing, tennis, golf, etc.

Aaah, I think you refer to the PlayaMarina hotel, originally intended to be a 5-star hotel, now 4-star and a Spa: http://www.hotel-playamarina.com/

As for shopping, there´s the Ayamonte center which is not very large and a few big commercial centers in the area (Tavira, Faro, Huelva). Ayamonte has a commercial center too (La Plaza) but it´s pretty empty.......
