From: Up in the mountains outside Cocentaina..and loving it!

As I have a little time this morning, I thought I could give you some more info on the trip.
Arrived New years eve, and made our way to our friends house. First time of seeing it, and it is beautiful! Got there about 9.30pm, so by the time we had eaten, toasted the new year in, we were shattered and made our way to bed.
Woke the next morning to find a thick frost everywhere, but clear blue skies (once the sun came up!). Spent the next couple of days just chilling out, socialising and generally catching up and having lots of girly chats (boy have I missed those!) whilst the men went off walking the mountains.
We organised some rented accommodation in the Ontinyent area (just outside of the town. Nice house, and it'll do till we get sorted)
We went into Xativa for the 3 Kings celebrations. What a fabulous evening it was too! Wandering round the street market, having some tapas in a great bar and then standing watching the parade was lovely!
On the Monday we set off for Benidorm for registration of our NIE's. Got there by 8.45 as arranged, and were greeted by the usual queues outside the police station. I thought we would be there for hours, but we actually walked out after doing all the paperwork at 9.45! We then went into Calpe and had a wander round before the temptation of an English breakfast got too much for Terry...it's the first time we have ever done that in all our time of going abroad!
Spent the afternoon touring round reminding ourselves of the areas we had picked to view properties in.
The following morning we were off early to meet up with our representative who would be accompanying us on the first day of our viewings. EA arrived on time and we were off. That day passed in a blur to be honest. So many to see, so much to think about. By the time we got back to our friends in the evening our minds were in a whirl! A sleepless night ensued, too many things going on in our heads!
Next day off we went again. Mostly viewed in the Ontinyent area, which was lovely, but not really what we were looking for. Not enough properties with space arond them for us. Another full day though!
Third and last day of viewings. We had seen the house which we have now made an offer on on the first day, Terry loved it, but I felt we hadn't had enough time to look round it properly, so we arranged a second viewing in between all the others we had arranged. Once I went back, I realised how perfect it was for us, I could imagine all of us living there. We carried on with the rest of the viewings for the day though, just in case there was a surprise contender.
Terry had spoken to the guy selling our favourite and asked if we could come back in the evening, he agreed. So, back to our friends, picked them up and off we went again at 6.30pm! Our friends thought it was perfect too!
That night Terry didn't sleep at all! He said he felt like a boy who had been told he could go to Disneyland! We set off for the airport quite early, and when we were waiting for our flight, put in an offer.
The flight was on time (good old Easyjet!) and whne we got back to U we had a call to say the offer had been accepted!
We now have 5 days before we sail off.....I really can't believe this is happening at the moment. Excitement, trepidation, and exhaustion just about sums up how we feel at the moment!
Sorry if this was a long post, but there really was a lot to tell!

Hi peeps
I have returned! It was a totally exhausting time, but we did it. NIE numbers are sorted, we viewed over 25 properties in 3 days, but we have found our new home! We made an offer yesterday before we flew home, and had it accepted.
We have found a beautiful property in the mountains just outside of Cocentaina ( the area we first fell in love with just about a year ago). It has 40,000 square metres of land on which there are olive and fruit trees. The local co-operative deal with the harvesting for the existing owner, and it gives a small financial income each year. The house is BEAUTIFUL and has a small casita for Terry's mum to live in. I have taken pictures, and once I get a spare minute or two, I will post a couple for you all to see! Pool, terracing, ADSL broadband too!
We were on such a high as we flew back yesterday. Then, as I was driving back to Cornwall, Terry got a phone call from the hospital about his mum. Whilst we have been away, she had another CAT scan. The results are terrible. Basically, they have told us she has terminal cancer, and that she might last 18 months to 2 years. We were flooored by that, as you can imagine...she has seemed to have recovered so well from all the surgey etc.
After a lot of soul searching, we have decided NOT to tell her the diagnosis. She is due to fly out this comng Friday before we sail off a week tomorrow. She is SO excited about it all, has seen the pictures I took, it seems criminal to dampen her positive attitude. As and when she need to know we will tell her.
Anyway, we have got some rented accommodation sorted until the sale goes through. We have decided to try our hardest to remain upbeat about all this and try to make mum's move to Spain a very happy one...for as long as we can.
Will upload some piccys later!
