If you won the lottery would you stay in the same area?

I'm possibly the only person I know who'd buy a Madrid apartment straight away (well, I can think of one person who's considering this, but this is because he works there, and he may head for the coast instead if he won a lot) - but I'd probably keep a place in the UK to avoid the hottest part of summer.
Would you stay where you are, or move to another country?

I would keep a base in this area.
Buy a house in Barbados
Buy a house on Lake Geneva
Buy an apartment in new York
If I won enough

Why not rent ? us lesser mortals only buy as it offers an easy way of accumulating capital ,mega rich often rent 2nd , 3rd ,4th homes as its less hassle , if you get fed up with an area you just throw the keys back and fly awayIf you own them you have the hassle of staff, maintenance ,selling etc.......lets keep dreaming

I like the idea of the woman who lived for years on the old QEII ship, she said it cost less than an old people home in Florida.
I would like to build a new home for dogs and cats complete with free neutering unit in andalucÃa.

I've never really liked hotels. The more luxurious ones are the worst, you never know if the employee is being nice to you because they're hospitable or because they expect a big tip. Annoying also to be in a place costing 150 or 200 a night yet they still charge £10 for a sandwich! Having your own books, clothes cds etc stashed in your own place beats the hotel room by far, I find.

I agree with the flexibility of mainly renting, but at the same time owning maybe a couple of fixed bases.
Stuffy hotels, no way, stick them were the Sun don't shine, regardless of how many Stars they stick next to their names.

I've never won the lottery, but I've lived in many areas much better than the one I'm in now. However, I've gotten used to it and the realisation sometimes frightens me.
I've recently shown a close relative around the area and caught her disapproving look at seeing yet another pensioner parading around with a pony tail and silly shorts. I suppose I've lived here so long I don't notice even the more appalling locals.
It's safe to consider such an opportunity from a distance, but I think I might stay right where I am.

There are probably more people living in council houses who haven't done a days work in their lives
Rich people work too, it's not the Victorian era. eg. Bransons daughter

All this is purely academic anyway since I never buy lottery tickets!

I'd stay.
Lynn, look at it this way. If you are not buying a ticket, your chance of winning is only slightly less than someone who does buy one.
