Iceland in Fuengirola
#1
A family member is arriving at Malaga airport early in October and I have agreed to pick her up even tho' it is a 6 and a half hour round trip from Baeza. I thought that I might use the day to also do some shopping at Iceland in Fuengirola, what with Christmas so near and all. A few British treats would certainly go down well after six years of doing without. I telephoned Iceland and asked for their post code so that I could programme the sat-nav with as much detail as possible. They gave me the post code but there are a bewildering amount of destinations specified under that number.
If anyone on here lives near said store - is there a road name that they could give me that I could punch in to the sat-nav? I tried putting in 'Miramar Retail Park', both in Spanish and English but with no result.
Thank you.

Well, I'd hurry up because the owners are in the process of flogging the business.
Read any of the UK financial papers.

Thanks very much indeed. I did actually find that map myself but was worried that, knowing my luck in these things, I would have ended up on the wrong side of the motorway Mediterraneo and wouldn't have been able to get off until I hit either Cadiz or Almeria!
Fingers crossed.

I do 80% of my shopping in Lidl - love it! Never seen back bacon though. Jaen is a backwater though - should be grateful for electricity I suppose.

Is it "Overseas SL" that is for sale or "Iceland Ltd."?

The "Iceland" stores in Spain are an entirely separate company owned by Overseas SL and sell many other products apart from Iceland brands including Waitrose products.
If Sainsbury Tesco or Asda take over Iceland in the UK it would only improve things.

I telephoned some friends in Sevilla who adore Iceland in Fuengirola and told them what frigilianafreddy had posted. They immediately telephoned Iceland who denied vehemently that they were to close. I suppose that they would wouldn't they? They did ask (Iceland that is) where my friends had obtained this information and were told that it was the subject of a thread on an Internet forum. Wait for some new posters/members to 'pop up'.

Why would that make any difference?

Yes its not "Iceland" as such, so it could be either Overseas SL are changing brands or they are selling and whoever takes over will continue to sell Iceland stuff. Either way I find it hard to believe it wont continue in more or less its existing format, its hugely popular and the goods are very well marked up!!!!

As you say, "Iceland" Spain doesn't exist. Iceland in the UK are being approached by the major supermarket players as they want their outlets.
Overseas SL - who we all incorrectly call "Iceland" will continue to sell whatever British products they choose to import - there is no suggestion that they are for sale which is why they denied it strongly.
