My wife and I are considering retiring to Spain in the next few years. Our initial concern is would we have enough money for a comfortable retirement?
We would probably have enough to buy a property outright but would 2000 Euros per month be adequate for all the other expenses including running a car, food, household bills, internet etc?
Any advice would be welcome, thanks.

More than enough, unless you live a particularly lavish life style

I would say carefully comfortable.
It starts to mean you have to watch your cents about 1200€ per.

We don't consider ourselves as lavish in any form. Just don't want to lay in bed worried about money issues.
The estimated pension is obviously based on the current exchange rate, that's something we will have to watch carefully.

I would suggest a good guide is:
If you can live comfortably on €X in the UK, you will be able to do the same in Spain.

A point to consider is if one of you were to pass away would the surviving partner have enough income?

I don't like to be negative, but I know several pensioners who would dearly love to move back home, but can't sell their property and could not afford to buy what they left. They feel trapped in Spain.
Make sure you have an exit strategy, .......... just it case!

Then you would have to reduce the price of your Spanish property, lower your expectations, and buy a smaller property in the UK in a cheaper area, which is what we did
Can you really expect to buy what you left, and why would you want to anyway, if you're a pensioner.
As for the previous comment about having enough to live on if the partner died
There is usually an inheritance, a proportion of the deceased's pension plus any savings, so in the majority of cases, yes, probably more than enough.

Well had a quick look and would probably need some work, but possible

Lenamore, Monivea, Co. Galway - House For Sale
I agree with you though and living in a country where you don't speak the language can be very tough and people should always be aware of that. The sun also goes down in Spain (actually earlier) and when you're old and alone in the dark, might not be that great.

Evidently most are Terrace houses or ex Council houses but a quick google showed me one in a Northumberland village close to the sea, if I was in the UK I would certainly make an offer.
Not everyone wants to live in a 3 Bedroom semi detached (the most common form of UK housing) average price 189K

Actually properties ranging in price from 50 to 100K are quite easy to find all over the UK (apart from London and the South East of course)
