I dont want to live next to heathrow. I dont need exactly to be in any one location but I would want to be within reach of airports and daughters and family. Property search engines only allow me to search within a radius of x miles from a point. Then I filter to a finer degree by eye.

Thanks
Really enjoyed reading some of the positive stuff for a change.
I cant believe that any sensible person can blame their financial mess on the banks offering 5X salary on mortgage lending. Are we assuming that we will borrow money simply because it is offered??
Does the small print not warn about the dangers of interest rates rising? Does anyone really think the banks cant wait to get their hands on repossed properties, a lengthy and drawn out process?
Things can only get better when people take responsibility for their own actions and decisions.
Happiness is a state of mind!!!

Well, I don't remember ever saying that there wasn't a problem, or that estate agents weren't closing.
All I was trying to do was to point out that just maybe those who are screaming that the sky is falling might not be entirely correct.

Strange, isn’t it bil? You didn’t say (or even infer) that there wasn't a problem (just like me) or say/infer that estate agents weren't closing (just like me) but somehow that ‘fact’ gets thrown at us repetitively by ‘Los Negativos’. The usernames aren’t Chicken Licken, or Henny Penny, but the mind-set is the same.

So what is your point here toyboy? I dont want to live next to heathrow. I dont need exactly to be in any one location but I would want to be within reach of airports and daughters and family. Property search engines only allow me to search within a radius of x miles from a point. Then I filter to a finer degree by eye.
1) You’re posting in a thread that concerns making the move to Spain, and (as I said at #144) the ability (or not) to sell a house in the UK. In slow stages you’re choosing to talk about buying a house in the UK. There’s always a bit of thread creep in forums, but that’s completely the opposite.
2) You could simply start a thread on the topic you appear to want to debate, but you don’t.
3) You’re being obtuse in that you’re playing your cards close to your chest and adding just a little bit more information every now and then, apparently just to try and prove earlier posters wrong when you ‘make the reveal’.
4) You appear of late to be stalking certain BE posters just to post negatively or provocatively. (see the No Doom Only Positive Comment thread, post #39, for one example) There’s a clue in ‘Only Positive Comment’.
These points, coupled with the fact that your BE profile is devoid of real information, makes it look like trolling to me. Don’t get me wrong though - I don’t give a monkey’s if that’s what floats your boat.

Since you ask, my point (or rather points) in this particular case:

I didn’t for one minute expect answers…
And now qué sorpresa this morning there’s another
negative post from you on the No Doom Only Positive Comment thread. (#45)
Which took you sooo many posts to reveal. I then contemplated talking objectively about your property search parameters, but soon realised: 1) that’s not your interest at all, and 2) it’s not on thread.

I see things from the other side as a potential buyer.

I believe that what ever you need to reduce the price by in the UK to achieve a sale you will be able to do exactly the same here in Spain, nothing is moving unless you are prepared to almost give it away, especially the larger villas. We have had ours on the market now for almost 18 months and only had 3 viewings now we know why, we told the agent that we wanted 650.000euros returned which is a heavy loss for us but when the last couple came to view they told the Agents it was the best they had seen and loved our Villa, they said that they had a business in the UK which I had heard of so after a few weeks decided to call them just to see if they had decided on a property, when he told me that he thought it was a little expensive at 825.000euros I said yes i agree I am not asking that price it is 650 this was last week but have not heard since, so I would suggest not using an Agent unless they disclose what there commission is first, huge saving can be made by dealing direct with the owners through local papers or internet websites offering properties direct from the owner.
Good luck with your sale

On track - there must be a considerable and obvious slow down of people moving - again despite the views of a few, most property isn't even being looked at let alone sold. At least 3 properties in my road have been taken off the market rather than sold.

Having already stated my own position above, as a potential buyer I am not going to waste my time nor a sellers time to even view a property unless it is being realistically marketed. My daughter has recently sold her house and re-marketed it to attract viewing and then lo and behold got an offer which she accepted. I do believe the UK housing market has been so much dominated by speculators and "buy to let" investors that the genuine home hunter has been squeezed out until the price comes down to what is affordable by those genuine home hunters. It is no surprise that the investors and speculators are not so interested because they are not looking for a home, they are looking for an investment opportunity and at the moment they are looking elsewhere than housing to make such investment. When you read of guys in the London area earning around 100000 pounds a year but still struggling with housing and living costs, there is something major wrong.

Having been on the market since last November we have accepted an offer 7.8% below our asking price on the strongest possible advice of our agent.
His vision of the cosmic all is a continued fall for at least a year, then two years to get back to where we are now.
We took the money and Spain here we come (to retire)
