How long to organise rental?
Is there a rough time to organise a rental from choosing a place to moving in?
I know it's a kind of "how long is a piece of string" question but in the UK it usually takes 2 weeks before you can move in while they process "paperwork" and do credit checks. Is this the same in Spain?

It all depends on what your looking for, personally I would see many properties and have as many options as possible as all landlords are different, ask lots of awkward questions like who pays the council tax as this can make a difference, why should you pay it when you can go else where and not have it as generally it is the owners responsibility not yours, it is a renters market negotiate your rent even a 50e discount per month is 600e a yr. Make sure you know what your land lord is willing to do regarding repairs and replacing white goods that become faulty and have it all documented in your lease.
Visit your preferred property at least twice at different times of the day as it may be close to bars that shut through the day but can be noisy at night, noisy neighbours that are out all day etc. Get your agent to explain the small print that you may well encounter and a good agent will be happy to do this and try to meet the landlord as they are the ones that you are renting off not the agent, it helps if you have a rapport with your landlord as this can make things a lot easier
Take your time, we came out in March to view the properties, choose one we liked arranged to move in the 1st of May we placed a 200e deposit and forwarded a further 800 that was the first months rent and the returnable deposit, it is a big decision do not rush into it as a bad choice can cost you.
Also consider little things like busses, dentists, doctors, access etc so think about where you want to live in town, out of town, near the coast or inland that type of thing, do as the Spanish do Poco y poco (little by little)

When we moved out in Jan 2007 we moved into a hotel for two weeks and looked around at various apartments. Luckily we knew the town we wanted to live in (Albir) once we found an apartment we were in as soon as we paid the deposit and signed. Believe it or not I don't know any agencies then or now that do any checks whatsoever which is why we have a lot of landlords coming to us to chase tenants for outstanding bills, rent, etc. etc
