Hi,
My Yorkshire terrier loved Spain from day-1. We live in Estepona, near to the beach, so she gets lots of walks, loves digging in the sand and on deserted stretches of beach she adores running free. If you are considering a move to Spain, don’t waste any time worrying about pets , they love it here, just the same as us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hi All,
One problem I have found is that toy Yorkies tend to have sensitive stomachs And often get diarrhoea after a day at the beach. Usually this is remedied by careful feeding for a day or two. In this case I feed Sami on white fish, rice and chicken. |

Hi All!
If I give my yorkie (Cookie) 2 yrs, tinned food she gets diarrhoea and if I give here dried food, soaked or unsoaked, she can’t digest it and brings it up. What is the best diet for a toy Yorkie with a delicate stomach? |
Re: How did your dog settle in Spain?
Hi all!
Slight problem so grateful for any suggestions please! I have to take Josh to the vet on Monday to have his stitches out and for orthopaedic vet to check progress. The original plan was for Bob to have the day off to take him, but as the pre booked appointment was for Monday (my day off) I will be taking him. It has just occurred to me however, that I don't know if I will be able to get him in and out of the car! :ohmy:It's a 4x4 and so quite high. He is too heavy for me to lift, he could probably jump but is not supposed to be putting any undue pressure on that leg (front leg) and if I put a box to halve the height, he will purposfully avoid it! ;) Any ideas guys? Thanks all! Chris XXX |

Go into the vets surgery first and ask for some help! Hope it all goes well! Sally |

How about putting a 'ramp' up at the back of your 4x4? That way you can lead him up it, keeping him on the lead?

Re: How did your dog settle in Spain?
a ramp would have been my idea, http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/pages-ma...-for-dogs.html
Why not try to temp the dog with some treats? |

Hi Matt! Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem is not that he can't jump up or down from the car, but that because of the operation he has had, is not supposed to! Bob thinks he would jump up ok just on his 3 good legs, but I am worried he will use the bady! I suppose I could put a ramp up putting some statigically placed treats which might distract him from the fact he is walking up a ramp. Hmmm, that might work. Bob is off today, so I think we will give it a trial run! :D

How about attracting him with his favourite toy as well?
Sally Bob suggested driving the car out of the drive onto the pavement. (the drive slopes upwards from the house to the pavement, then pavement slopes downward to the road) Where the pavement slopes down, the drive is higher and only about 6 or 8 inches from the ground to the open boot! Josh can practically step in and out! Sorted! So thank you for everyones' suggestions, through combined thinking and trial and error, we got a satisfactory result! :thumbsup:Cheers all! Bob has just gone drop the pet insurance claim form to the vets for them to complete and return to us. Total vet bill to date is about £25 short of £2k. Thank God we had pet insurance! It is something when the only member of the family with private medical care is your pet isn't it? ;) |
Re: How did your dog settle in Spain?
Hi All,
I have a Yorkshire terrier aged 2. I trained her to walk to heel and to come when called. Just recently she has started pulling on the lead again. She has also as she’s just turned 2, developed a voracious appetite for chasing cats (She never gets far, as she’s on the lead, but she barks a lot and works herself up over them.) Urgent! Can any body tell me what I should be doing to get this 3.5 kg terrorizer back under control???? |
Re: How did your dog settle in Spain?
Hi all, back from the vets with Josh. Had plaster removed, stitches taken out and same plaster reapplied. Another £120 quid! :ohmy:Poor old Joshey has been very subdued today. I kept getting "the look" You know what what I mean? The one that says "Why did you take me to that place again?" :(Did I feel bad all day or what? The vets said everything ok, and they want to keep the plaster on for another 6 weeks, and to take him back to our vet every 10-14 days for checks to make sure no swelling etc. So we just have to continue watching he doesn't jump or run for another 6 weeks! ;)
Grazy I shall be watching for responses to the question you asked with great interest, because that is how Josh injured his foot, saw a cat as we were getting him out of the car, and he just took off!;) |
