Just checked the date of your post when Sammy couldn't have his pins out, and it must be nearly time now! Have you taken him to the vet yet, or have you still got to go? Kiss big hug for Sammy!

Hi Chris,

I didnt want to reply till the vet phoned me back so I could have some news for you. Bad news for Sam! He has to wait another 6 weeks before he can have his pins out. The surgeon had a good look at his x-rays and now wants to wait quite a bit longer. I am not happy but whatever is best for Sam. In the mean-time the pain is getting worse and everytime he has these bouts of pain he is violently sick. I am going to take him to the vets on Friday so they can just check that the pins that have been in since November arent pushing out too much and also to get him some more pain killers. If they are pushing out too much then they will operate on that leg but they dont really want to. Because he is so small they dont want to keep giving him the anaesthetic. So we are in for another tough six weeks, for Sam more than me but I hate seeing him in pain.

Oh Sam, have only just read the bad news about poor Sam's pins :(
What a huge disappointment for you; and as you say it's even worse for Sam - poor boy.

I can only echo everyone else's good wishes, and really hope that the Vet can reassure you today that they're doing all they can to ensure that Sam is as comfortable as possible.
This is a time when you really wish he could talk, I'll bet!

I'm sure the Vet knows what he's doing for the long term, but of course you want to be sure that Sam is free of pain.
Good luck with your visit, and please do let us know how you get on.

Sending love and good wishes to you and Sam

from Sam! xx

Re: How did your dog settle in Spain?

Sams been to the vets and the good news is he can have the pins out in one of his legs (the one that is causing all the pain). They just need to check with the surgeon on Monday but they think it will be ok.

In the last eight days for 7 of them he has been in agony. It is not constant agony but all of a sudden he will get a stabbing pain. He immediately stiffens up, curls his back legs up and somehow his front legs come round the top of his head, his head goes to one side and his eyes nearly pop out of the sockets. This lasts for about 10 minutes then he gets down and staggers round the garden until he has been violently sick.

I actually cried as I was trying to explain to the vet. Anyway she did an x-ray and the pins can come out. He will just have to go through it a while longer with the other leg but at least it wont be both legs that are giving him the pain.

Chris and Sam, thanks for your kind words and support.

Hi Sam,

At least you and little Sam have got some good news about the pins in the leg that are causing him so much pain.
Poor little fella - how awful for him to be so uncomfortable at times, and how dreadful for you to have to watch him helplessly :(

You two have had a rough few months, haven't you?

As Chris says, please do keep us up to date with his progress, and of course let us know how things go on Monday.
Has Sam got to stay overnight?
I really hope all goes well, and especially hope that it won't be too much longer before Sam can start feeling like a happy little dog again.
He's lucky he's got people who love him so much, and who only want to do the best for him.

You take care, and all the best to you both for Monday.
I'll be thinking of you

Love Sam xx

Oh Sam, that's great news! I am so pleased that the vet is taking the pins out of both legs at the same time, at least Sammy will only have to undergo 1 operation! I expect you will be feeling mixed emotions, but it will be so good to be able to put this all behind you. I will be thinking about you both, and sending you both love and hugs, and also sending you some karma (if it will let me!) Let us know how things go, we are all with you!

I'm surprised at your comments Nothernsoul girl! The thread is specifically about dog's welfare and how they have settled in a different climate and with a possible difference in attitude with vets/aftercare and the like! Those who are interested in the ongoing well being of anyones dog or pet in general for that matter look forward to hearing progress reports, 1 because we genuinly care, and 2 because it's nice to know that there is someone you can talk to who shares a common interest and who is there for you.
If you find it offensive then why do you visit this particular thread? :sneaky: I don't think Sam needed to hear these comments at this time and think your comments very cruel under the circumstances!
Keep the news coming Sam, I for one really do care and want to know that Sammy is doing well!
