House insurance

Yes ... yes, I know we've done this before but I just noticed my bank have taken my premium for the year from my account with no renewal or notification. And its quite high, a big increase on last year and well over €100 increase over two years. I'm going to ask for it back by letter through their door tomorrow
Has anyone had good deals recently
Don't bother recommending Intasure, their only interest according to them is with holiday homes

The cheapest I've found is with Caixa Galicia in Gandia ( I had a claim and they paid up
) Which is always the test of a decent company.

We have buildings at £82.45
Contents at £36.82
plus free extras
With taxes and charges £139.11
(note this is pounds).
This is for a small village house in a small rural village.
And you can pay monthly by direct debit for no extra charge.

They do know it is NOT a holiday home -in fact when I mentioned I still had a house in the UK they asked if they could give me a quote for that as a holiday home - the cindition is we have to occupy it for more than six months a year.
I'd try them again if I were you.

I've just insured with them. They gave me 4 months free, which means I only paid £93 for the year. I'm well chuffed.
Mine is a holiday home, but I rent it out to a couple of friends 2-3 weeks a year.
I would have thought that they would take anyone's money whether they be residents or holiday lets. Pemanent residents would be less of a risk surely!

The reply
Our premiums are higher for main residences than for holiday homes. This is due to our claims experience in Spain. So in effect it is cheaper to insure a holiday home than it is a main residence. With kind regards Theodora Murray
And after I pushed it further saying a holiday home was surely more likely to be a bad risk
I understand what you are saying but our claims experience is different. I'm sorry we were not able to give you a more competitive quote. With kind regards Theodora Murray

Isn't the correct procedure to take your "recibo" to your bank and tell your bank to cancel it?
Make sure you do it before the fecha de limite (deadline). I was once a day late to the bank with my recibo for cancelling an insurance policy and there was nothing they could do.

Just go into the bank and they will cancel it for you there and then. Tried Linea Directa but as I didnt have reinforced doors with three separate locks wouldnt insure for burglary which is hopeless.

I've had three quotes whilst I've been away for around €240 .... my renewal was over €400!
