Great news for the lost dog we brought home with us last night. I took him to the vets and I couldnt believe it but he is micro-chipped So they phoned his owners who said he managed to open the door of the house and get out. So dog and owner are now reunited

Dawn, have you taken the dog you are feeding to the vets to see if he is micro-chipped?

He's not chipped. I took him to the vets to make sure he was healthy and they checked then

I am very tempted to take him, but I have quite a lively 5 year old and I am a bit worried that they won't get on! He is also quite nervous around dogs, although this is a reason that I wouldn't mind having one as I don't want him to grow up with a phobia. I also have never had a dog but my husband has. I am in a dilemma as I want to help (and I'm only down the road in Aspe) but nervous i'll make the wrong decision!
There are quite a few other dogs around us who get quite noisy when bikes etc go past, do you think that would worry Bobby? Does he sleep in the house or outside? Probably all silly questions but as I said i've never had a dog so this is quite a big decision!

He does sleep outside, but I let them in for a couple of hours a day as they like to have company, and follow me around anyway. As I said, he's a bit timid at first, but he's come out of his shell a lot in the few months I've had him. I don't know what he'd be like with small children, although I don't think for one minute he'd be a danger. He just loves attention and he'd sit all day and be petted.
The noise wouldn't bother him as we live on a road that has noisy bikes regularly too. He would bark if they stopped outside the house though.
I know it's a big decision, if you need to know anything else let me know, no question is silly

can we arrange to come and see him? maybe on Saturday? PM me, so we can arrange.
Also, is he ok to be left on his own as we work and are sometimes out for most of the day, normally out from 9am-3pm? would he be alright in the garden for that time?

Ok, I have been reading this quite a bit over the last day or so and I have to say, and it wont be easy reading and it will definately piss some people off but I personally think that if an animal cant find a place to live ultimately it is better off dead.

To be passed from pillar to post is a pretty miserable life for an animal as far as I am concerned.

Not that I am suggesting that this dog will be passed from pillar to post, but many do and for me its better that they meet a swift end.......................I have seen it so many times with horses and they just become more and more miserable.......if you really love an animal then why do it?

Dogs can quite easily settle into a new home, just like a cat. Yes, they will miss their previous owners but they will get over it.

What's any of that got to do with any of this? More interestingly... how does an animal find a place to live? Does it apply? Scan the 'Free Owners' columns in the local paper? Take out a mortgage? Also....how would a horse manage to hold a paper up to it's face to read it in the first place? Surely it'd find difficulty in picking the paper up with it's hoofs (or do you say hooves?).

In this case a stray seems to have found a temporary home. It's current carer is doing a great job in finding a permanant owner. If she's successful - then Bobby will hardly have been passed from pillar-to-post anymore than both of my dogs have been. Both of mine are from rescue homes. And by your reasoning, my dogs and infact all animals in rescue shelters should be killed?

You either haven't thought this through or are just adding your comment for the sake of controversy.
