Default Holiday Home Insurance

Our buildings and contents insurance is up for renewal and in the past we have used Intasure. They were so competitive on price that we changed over to them for our UK property as well. However this year they came in at about 30% dearer than others so we changed to another provider. The new provider doesn't do properties abroad, so can anyone recommend a good alternative we contact?

Hi, we have been with Intasure for 7 years now for our Spanish home and the premiums did increase each year and each year we compromised. This year there was a considerable hike and I advised we would remove our business and they dropped the price so we now pay the same as we did 3 years ago ! I was relieved as in previous years I have searched around and not found anybody any cheaper for like-for-like cover. If you have not done it already tell them you have a better quote and will not renew unless they reduce their price - bet you've already said that though.

Not challenged them yet until I get some better quotes. They are quoting me £210 and another company has quoted £165. We started with them at just £120 and not had a claim. So much for loyalty for a long term clients eh?

Insurance companies and loyalty go together like a horse and ...... errr.....UK beefburgers

I have a policy with MAPFRE they had an office at Laguna but I think they may have moved. I did it over email and a very torturous use of google translate, but got there in the end. If you know a Spanish speaking person to help you it would be worth asking them.

PM me if you want the email address I used....

Good luck
Jon

PS my bank also offers a policy, so worth a shot as well if you have a Spanish account

Do you actually need buildings insurance if you are part of a block of apartments. These guys do a great package for contents cover, fixtures & fittings plus water, fire damage etc.

Fred are you connected with Ibex ?
I have no problem with that as I would sometimes like to use your comments
when others ask about insuring abroad.

The building is normally insured by the community, but I suggest you check that is correct in your case.

just insured for first time - 4 bed town house cost 280 euro through Solbank / Sabadell. If you have a bank account with them, they may be worth considering.

Our policy (with Intasure) is a contents+ policy -ie it covers the third party risks that you would normally get with a buildings policy but not with a contents only policy.

Was told that I only needed contents and fixture/fittings which I took up with IBEX at a great rate of 100 euros. It cover water leaks etc as well, so hopefully we have it all covered. Spoke to Intasure and they don't do fixtures and fittings without the full buildings cover which prices them out of the game and doubles the policy amount.

Another 100 euros saved thanks to info from the forum, so thanks to all for there help.

You obviously have a different requirement for insurance.
My 'fixtures & fittings' would be covered by the buildings insurance through the community, as we have a condominium, and therefore I wouldn't need that cover, however the community insurance would not cover 3rd party risks and neither would a 'contents only' . I just wanted to highlight this in case anybody inadvertantly leaves a hole in their cover.

My contents insurance with Ibex includes 3rd party whereas my community insurance is building only with 3rd party restricted to liability from the building not it's "tenants"
