Why would you want to be Spanish?

Why would you want to be Spanish?
What possible reason under this sun can a Gibraltarian have for wishing to be Spanish? What possible formula could there be for Gibraltar to accept joint or total sovereignty from Spain and for Gibraltarians to remain free as part of a nation that abuses its own people.

A lot of Catalans are asking the same question, for different reasons, but Spain is turning into billynomates, or is that Juansinamigos?

Because colonialism is an outdated concept in the 21st century, we have had our fun and it is time to move on. If the Gibraltarians wish to be British, there is a place called Great Britain where they would be made more than welcome.
And yes, the same goes for Ceuta and Melilla too.

Because the whole process has nothing to do with democracy. The facts are, there is something called the UN Committee on Decolonization which has oversaw the decolonization of 95% of the world's colonies.
Now, we in the 21st century, there are two pathways for the future of Gibraltar.
The first is give it back to Spain - they would be fine under the Spanish, you live there and your democratic rights haven't been threatened - or have they?
The second is to give them their independence, they would be a minor state like Monaco or Singapore and they could survive just like those countries do.
What shouldn't be allowed (in my opinion - no-one has to agree) is that the British have the right to hold that rock sine die. This also goes for the Spanish and Ceuta and Melilla. They haven't got the rights to hold those pieces of rock for eternity either. The Moroccans want their bits of land back which is quite understandable.
Now, if the Gibraltarians don't want to be part of Spain and they don't want to run their own affairs and feel they are 'British' then there is a place called Great Britain where they can go and live.
It is the 21st century, we have given up India and Kenya and Ireland and life is still great. So if Gibraltar is given back to the Spanish OR given self rule. It won't make any odds to them or to us.

Well, there you go, that is the way forward. Plenty of minor states in the Caribbean do it very well as do the Singaporeans.
