I always have a wry smile when posts such as this appear. Don’t misunderstand me, the responses are often very helpful. And go some way to filling in the gaps. However, to my mind, they always start at the wrong place. The first question should be why the poster wants to live and or work in Spain , in particular, or the EU in general. Have they any knowledge of the country or it’s it based on hearsay or holidays? Do they a particular skill that they could exercise or that couldn’t be replicated by a Spanish person? Do that have a working knowledge of the language. Are they aware of the bureaucracy? Do they realise how variable the weather is? How would they obtain income to live? Could they cope with a country that has cultures which could be quite alien to the, the summer holidays in August, the bullfighting ( where it still exists) the endless fiestas/ holiday dates, the spar city of social care. Lot’s of questions, the responses to which would probably remove the need to go into such details as visas, lengths of time etc.

If you have a job where you can work remotely, you may be able to use the digital nomad visa. I'm not sure of all the requirements. More info here: https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consul...omad-Visa.aspx
Good luck.

Very good post above from rspltd.
Every month we get one of these pipe dream post, usually from people who never lived (anywhere) abroad before.

UK people can have all the right motivations to move to an EU country but they count for absolutely nothing if they cannot get a Visa so having esoteric conversations is just wasting time frankly

Andorra is nice in the fall and spring. Lots of hiking, lakes, rivers but in the winter forget it and maybe the summers also - hot in a van...

It might be nice if the OP PGT1972 came back to give us an update on his thoughts. It might save the rest of us some typing time!

Wow! What a lot to unpack. Everything from Brexit and Bullfights to Passports and (my favourite), pipedreams. My most sincere apologies to those who were exasperated by my ignorance, I mistook this for a friendly forum where experience and knowledge may be passed around rather than being scoffed at. I merely wish to research the topic amongst people who've actually done it, to see if it might be possible for me to do it too. Since somebody asked me to update- I shall. I'm now looking to see if it is possible to stay and work in Spain for Jan, Feb & March then go back to the UK. If somebody would be good enough and not too condescending to explain to me what an NIE number is and how a UK citizen acquires one ahead of going to Spain, I'd be very grateful.

I wish you good luck, despite the silly comments on here,

. Also be aware that if you do come, Torrevieja council are cracking down on people living in Campervans on non campesite areas. Recent years has seen a proliferation or people parking their vans on the coastal paths to Punta Prima and La Mata.

I see that you have been provided with clear info on the NIE.
Please do not allow the odd negative comments to stop you asking for more help. The only stupid question is the one that is not asked.

I'm afraid an NIE number will not help your employment prospects.
