Default Hola!

Hi Everyone- My daughter and I are examining the possibility of moving from the UK to Spain. We would like to be able to spend some months living and working in Spain and some months living and working in the UK. My first mission is to find out whether or not this is possible. I also need to find out whether or not I can legally use a VW Campervan bought in the UK while in Spain. it will be our daily vehicle and used for travelling around Europe while in Spain and our daily vehicle and main accommodation while travelling and working around the UK. I'm 52, my daughter is 18. We have friends living near Torrevieja who we'd like to be based near. Any/ all initial advice is welcome and gratefully received.

From what yu say there is little chance of you doing what you want, there is a limit of 180 days out of 365 to stay in EU countries, that is in total, it's doesn't reset when you move from on country to another. You would need to have a job in, say Spain, then become resident to spend more then 180 days in the EU in total returning to the UK doesn't reset the clock.

In that case, to legally work in Spain you will need to apply for and get a contracted work position then your prospective employer will need to apply for a work visa on your behalf from the Spanish consulate in the UK. All available work in Spain must be offered to an EU citizen first by law.
Your daughter will also need to do the same as above.
You can't just move to Spain without some sort of visa.

As above days in Schengen zone (most of Europe) actually in two blocks of 90 in 180 days. Without a visa you can’t work and difficult to get work visa for non EU resident.

To expand a little on that point. Your daughter being 18 years old is regarded as an adult in Spain and as such cannot be claimed as your dependent so would have to make her own entirely separate visa application be that through a job offer or the NLV route which, by definition, prohibits work of any kind.

If you did somehow manage to acquire residency your UK motorhome would need transferring onto Spanish plates, not always an easy task.

Also it's not blocks of 90 days but a rolling 90 days in any 180.

Frankly I see zero chance of success for your plan.

You plans would have been possible pre Brexit when you had EU freedom of movement but now they are completely out for reasons stated by others above.

I'm not directing this solely at the OP but didn't British people understand what the loss of EU freedom of movement would mean and how much it would restrict them? I find it incredible that anyone would consider the above plan viable for a third country national.

Perhaps someone should slap a statement to that effect on the side of a bus.

I dont think most would really have considered what loss of freedom of .movement actually meant.I guess unless they had actually planned to move to EU to retire or work most just thought of travelling to likes of Spain as in a one or two week holiday once or twice a year which of course they can still do. Its now dawning on people what it all actually meant.

You could "pop" over to Morocco for 3 months after your ninety days in Spain and come back into Spain after ninety days there for another ninety days in Spain ... I hope that is correct...
Just remember your time starts ticking when you enter the EU and exit... So a ferry to Spain and a ferry back to the UK from Spain would save the time of driving thru France...

Or perhaps the vast majority who voted leave didnt and dont care about living/working in the EU, apart from second home owners etc.
They can still holiday in the EU for their 2 weeks in the sun. It means very little in reality to most UK citizens. How many took up that option while the UK was in the EU? Not that many. The OP was asking for advice, not a lecture.

Well many the trappings of a modern-day western democracy mean very little to someone who's only interested in their two weeks holiday. Meaning the whole referendum exercise was an extremely stupid idea in the first place.

90 days in Gibraltar or Andorra is also a possibility.
