No, not Bil
My Siamese cat (male, neutered, never away for more than a night before) went off five mornings ago and as a not terribly experienced cat owner I'm fretting wildly about when to alert the vet/microchip etc.
He had settled well, so it's not that. Vet said at this time of year even neutered males can get caught up in a frenzy of chasing females (sounds like many species are similar then
) & that 4 days wasn't that long.
Anyone give me any advice/pointers? We're deep in the campo 1.5km from the nearest road that's likely to be a threat. I've been back to the two previous houses he lived at. I've rattled his feed bowl several times daily since the first morning. Very sad. Help!

I'd probably be inclined to take the vet's advice for now
my cats have never gone missing - maybe cos they're both female?
I did have a couple of male cats in the UK - one hit by a car & the other refused to move when we did - just around the corner!
they were both sons of our 16 year old moggy - maybe the one who wouldn't move decided it was time he cut the apron strings?

Sorry Fiona, don't have any advice but just wanted to say good luck with the search. We had a cat when I was younger and I remember it once going off for much longer than 5 days. Let us know wen he's back.

Many years ago I had a cat who went missing when we moved. I found her outside the house about 5 weeks later, very thin, hungry and feral. I was just glad that she had decided to come home. She was about 7 at the time and she wasn´t chipped.
I´ve had cats all my life and I wouldn´t give it longer than a week before contacting the vet re: his chip. Of course, that´s just my opinion. Good luck and let us know when you find him.

Ive had 2 cats go missing. Both times we eventually found them in unused buildtings (one a garage and one an outbuilding). We think that in both instances they got scared of something and hid and then got too frightened to come back out.
We had walked past both this building numerous times calling out their names. Both times we found them by walking round late at night when it was very quiet listening. Eventually we heard them miaowing.
Worth try!
good luck..its very distressing when a pet goes missing

As a long time siamese cat owner I wish you well. We did lose one whom we never found but also lost one for several weeks and then he just walked in the door as if he had never been gone. Ask around put posters up, contact your vet do everything possible.

Cats are obviously independent characters and sometimes they go missing for days, months, or years. When they do go missing it is hart breaking and we fully understand what you are going through.
Here is a story that we hope will give you some hope. Last November we was adopted by a cat. It was hard to get her confidence but after a few weeks we managed to stroke her. Like you we live in the middle of the campo so we do not have a clue of where she came from. Moving on a few months she started to be in heat and all the males, from Km around were appearing on our doorstep. She got pregnant. Last March we were woken on a stormy day by her crying out below our bedroom window. Later that day she gave birth to 2 kittens. Now we have 4 cats. So we did not want more. Our vet said we could have her sterilised round about October time. In between time we had her injected to stop her having more kittens.
Come October we had her sterilised and kept her indoors. (BTW should have said being a stray cat she hates being inside behind closed doors) We kept her in for a few days as the vet instructed but then we let her out for a few hours just before feeding. She went missing for the night. No food or warmth. HELL! Next day she turned up for her food and then duly went missing again, this time for 5 days…MORE HELL! You cannot imagine what guilt we went through. It was cold and wet and windy. We imagined all sorts of things had happened to her. We looked in all the places we though she might be. We even had the kittens walk around with us. Sometimes they would stop and meow in a certain place. This was as if these spots were where she could normally be found. It was difficult as we have a business to run and guest staying with us. We were not in our normal mood. Our preoccupation must have show through to our guests.
However after 5 days with no food she returned a bit thinner but not wet, so she must have had some sort of shelter. For her nothing had happened! Now she has had the staples, from the operation wound, taken out and is happily settling back in to a routine.
So you have to wait the cat may just surprise you and return.
The photo is of her in the bed with the 2 kittens
PS it is a shame you cannot take some peoples Karma away after the remarks they make!

Don't know why I'm bothering to answer that, but you've obviously little knowledge of the campo dear Betris. Nearest chinky some 40min....
Back to the plot. HE'S BACK!!!

Turned up at the last house but one he lived at this afternoon - and thankfully the chap - due to go back to UK Monday - was actually in! Anyway, totally fine apart from one slightly manky eye which happened between arriving at our house & me getting home...
He'd ventured some 3km, across a road - bearing in mind there aren't that many in these yur parts - and I'm thinking of writing a kids book entitled Lenny's Campo Adventure
So, all's well that ends well. I won't panic quite so soon if there's a next time, but thanks for all your kind words
