today I took my son and daughter in law to get their NIE numbers at Orihuela. They have been coming to Spain for a week every month for the last year and are now ready to buy when they come out in March, hence needing an NIE number. However they haven't made their final choice yet and were refused numbers on the grounds that they had no venta. Is this normal and is there any way round it?

Tell them to put they need the number for work and use your address. ;-))

Thanks for the suggestion however the official wrote on the paper that we had to produce "justificacion" for the reason why they need the numbers so presumably they would need an offer of employment document. We did put our address on but now wonder if this will cause a problem if they buy in another area and the money has been paid to Orihuela. They return to UK tomorrow so unless we can sort it today it will have to wait until next time.

NIE is a national document I believe, so that shouldnt be a problem. For instance if I move to Galicia and my NIE was issued in Gandia, CB North, it really doesnt matter

Yes the address doesn't matter at all. Just write 'trabajo' on there and they will give you the number, they do not need to see offer of employment.

In the office we always tick the box that says Social and have never had any problems at all. Take them to Alicante and there should be no problems!
