Hello All

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your move to Spain.
My Sister lives in Cyprus, and wishes she had not moved so far
from the UK. She is also, along with most others, too hot at certain
times if the year. I think Spain is great, and hope you do too.
Regards
Pavlo

We Both thank you all for that information, all is helpful, none is discarded.
We are open as to area and as Son, who I did say was 39 but is only 37 (finger trouble), is resident in Benidorm anywhere within an hours? drive would be suitable.
If anyone lives in the La Font D'en Carros area, knows the area, or has a property to rent please get in touch.
Have you heard "La Gota Fria" sung by Carlos Vives. Good singer and a lovely lively tune.
All For now. Keep talking

your best bet is to have a drive around and explore all these areas and the smaller villages, you will get a better feel for the area actually being there
Gandia is approx 45 mins from Benidorm so if you drive up and come off thre AP7 go into Oliva and Gandia then you can go through all the smaller places along the way such as La Font, Piles, Ador, Palma de Gandia, Bellereguard, Real de Gandia, Daimus, Miramar.................then there are the urbs such as Tossal Gross, Monterrey, Monte Corona...............there are plenty of places to rent and prices are coming down...........grab some of the free local papers such as Female Focus and Inland trader, lots of rentals in there then there is costa blanca news which you can look at online (actually I think F.Focus and I.Trader are online too)
All these places I have mentioned are easy access to the AP7 and therefore Valencia and Alicante airports aswell as the beach

It will be too hot here in Cyprus for somebody coming from the Good Old UK but as we arrived after 3 years in Thailand it is just right for us at the moment. Little humidity and only in the 30's. With a lovely breeze.
Where in Cyprus is your Sister? We are in the North at Bogaz.

My Sister is in a place called Anogyra, which is about halfway between Paphos and Limassol, and inlnd a few miles.
The have done about three RAF tours there so they should have known what it would be like !! I suppose as we get older we get more sensitive to extremes.
Anyway as I say good luck with your "area hunting".

gosh.....there are lots of "lookey-lookey" sellers along Gandia but never heard of locals protecting them...... I have seen the local police on their quad bikes chasing a guy along the beach once and also in Gandia the police got hold of a seller and give him a slight beating

Hi All,
Found this in one of the online Spanish papers. Can anyone clarify

Quote: Tourists defend beach hawker
A RIOT broke out when police tried to arrest an illegal sub-Saharan vendor on Gandia beach (Valencia).
About 200 residents, tourists and vendors clashed with the police officers.
"These guys don't harm anyone, while out there delinquents roam around free and you do nothing to catch them," shouted the crowd as they hindered the arrest.
The clash happed in the evening on the Paseo Neptuno (near the Coco-Loco disco) one of the most popular areas for the sub-Saharan vendors.
Local police went up to one of the hawkers to confiscate the false clothes when the vendor decided to stand up to them.
Little by little, other vendors and their ‘minders' joined the fray that then attracted groups of passers-by and tourists who insulted the officers and repeated that the vendors ‘had not been doing anything wrong'.
The most aggressive supporters even started kicking and scratching the officers who were forced to use tear gas in their defence. Police vehicles were also damaged, with lights broken and tyres punctured.
Local officers then called for backup from the national police and the Guardia Civil to sort out the riot. More than 15 police vehicles finally arrived at the scene and the vendor was arrested.
Gandia national police chief Armando Jiménez said the trend is for the vendors to put up more resistance to their arrests but added this is the first time there has been such vigorous defence from the public.
Police spokesmen stressed that unlicensed hawking is a crime and that when officers confiscate false goods and arrest the vendors they are complying with the penal code and the municipal bylaws. :Unquote

The southern Costa Blanca suffers from those annoying lookey-lookey men too, but the local police are starting to clamp down on them in a big way. I'm sure that if they fought back down here, the Spanish (and the Brits) would be on the side of the police.
It was strange reading that article about a riot on Gandia beach, of all places, until I realised that we are in August and Gandia will be full of Madrilenos.
It's the same down here, but they're only here for another eight days, until the avalanche heads back to Madrid next weekend.

Ok who has a property for rent in the Gandia area.
Appears you won't die of boredom. you can watch the free show. Police and hawkers chasing each other up and down the beach and even join in if you so desire - no entrance fee
