Default Hello and advice please

Hi, my hubby and I are renting a property for two years near Competa. We are only really here a week or ten days a month due to commitments still in the UK. Really at the moment it's like a holiday home. We do have our NIE numbers (January 2016).
What we are struggling with is car insurance!
We want to bring my hubby X motorbike and a uk plate car over to leave here full time.

U.K. Won't insure for more than 90 days out of the UK.

Would we be able to insure with a Spanish insurance company? If so who?

Thank you so much for any advice or help you can give us.

Just wish we were here all year! One day 🤗

Spanish insurance companies won't want to insure a UK plated vehicle unless you are in the process of getting it changed to Spanish plates.

Remember that you have to take them back to UK each year to get MOT's etc.

Why not change them to Spanish plates and then get Spanish insurance?

Hola
Whilst there are companies that will (currently while the UK is in the EU) insure British registered cars, it is far better to either buy in Spain or re-register the vehicles onto Spanish plates.

Some companies will insure UK vehicles and lack of MOT / tax is not an issue ...... until you want to make a claim.

Hi Libbylj

Talk to Expat car insurance in Spain, motor, medical, travel, pet, holiday homes, marine insurance, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and explain your situation.

They should insure you but you must still remain within Spanish law

Hi, See Thread at.... http://britishexpats.com/forum/spain...-spain-867906/

If you are going to remain non resident in Spain then you can keep your UK registered car as long as you like in Spain, as long as it is street legal in the UK. This means that it needs to be MOT'd in the UK and insured while in Spain. (You cannot buy a Spanish registered car and drive it in the UK if you resident in the UK).
All this info is Pre Brexit, so this may change in the future.
HTH.

p.s. Checkout SAGA for long term vehicle insurance while in Spain.
