Healthcare
Hi
My girlfriend and I are going to be retiring to Spain this year (October) and we have been told that we need to have private health insurance for a time until we can apply for the public health care.
What we want to know is what sort of health care do we need ?
Can we arrange for healthcare over here in UK before we move in October or does it have to be done in Spain ?
Does anyone know of a good healthcare company ?
We have our NIE number and our residency in place already.
Thank you

Re: Healthcare
For residency you will need full healthcare with no co payments for treatment and the full year paid. Well that's what I needed. There are some regional variation (number of past threads re the subject). To establish a good provider some may help if you give area you plan moving to. Some providers are Spain wide some that may be cheaper are regional.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. We are going to be moving to Guardamar.
If anyone does know or can recommend a good private healthcare company I would be grateful.
Also while I am here does anyone know which Spanish bank is good for opening an account and having our pension paid into.
Thank you

Hi
Sorry I made a mistake ,
I have not got the residency yet.
I have two lists at home , a list of things to get and a list of things already got and I read from the wrong one. My error.
As for the pension its not the state pension we will be getting and living on it will be our job pension.
Thank you for all your input and replies

Re: Healthcare
We always had good service from Adeslas for our private medical insurance- owned by La Caixa, which , as a BTW, is also a good bank in terms of service. What you cannot do, as someone has already mentioned, is take advantage of their "Copage" scheme which reduces the overall premium cost until after you are resident.

TBH until the 'B' word nonsense is finally put to bed nobody can offer any conclusive or even accurate advice either on healthcare or many other factors.
