Last year was my first Halloween in Spain and I didn't know they had the trick or treat custom here and hadn't got any sweets in, so I gave the kids who came calling a euro per group instead. They looked most disappointed and asked for caramelos, and I was amazed at the difference in attitude from the British kids I'd been used to who would much prefer the money and turn their noses up at a few sweets! And I was very impressed by the Spanish kids' costumes, they had obviously put a lot of effort in.
I also liked the custom of kids taking around home made decorated tronos during Semana Santa to collect a few coins from the neighbours.
But at least in Spain we didn't seem to get carol singers or Penny for the Guy!

My daughter did the make-up
She went as a fallen angel and had a gorgeous dress on beneath her coat but it was so cold she didn't take her coat off all night so no-one saw it...here is a pic I took before we set off.

It is beautiful, it seems something gothic, but I don't guess right to understand what relation has for to masquerade of witch, ghost or goblin the day that is honored our deceaseds

Also I believed that was Ireland (were the irishmen those that introduced this tradition in United States). Now I am confused. That tradition was already known in Galicia as Samain

One Christian celebration was moved from one date to the Pagan celebration date, so now it is all mixed up.

The similarity of the samhain or samain of Galicia with Halloween of the british islands is surprising, because to the spirits, to the supernatural powers of the Nature also were offered pumpkins

Hi Lionda
It looks like you had great fun at the party; and both you and your daughter look fantastic!
Your daughter certainly is very attractive.
It's a shame Matt hasn't paid better attention to the information you've already shared about her though

Glad to hear that she's done a couple of gigs, and hope that more work will be coming her way soon.
I noticed on another thread, that you were thinking about possibly moving after Christmas!
Not being nosey, but is all OK for you?
You always sound really cheery about life (and tapas!) so it threw me a bit to read that you were contemplating a move.
Just hope that things are OK with you, that's all
Love Sam xx

Son of Spain love the masks.
The answer to the origins of Halloween is here.

LynnR ..Why should they have penny for the guy here in Spain? After all it is a British celebration of the capture of a Catholic, who committed treason.
The graves look lovely now they are all clean and that the flowers have been placed on them.

We got carol singers, but they were ex pat kids. Penny for the guy is highly unlikely as Guy Fawkes is a specific UK thing, but areas with high expat populations may get it. Likewise there will be few fireworks on that night, excpet for high expat areas.

I wasn't suggesting for one moment that the Spanish should adopt the "Penny for the Guy tradition", and as my post was worded "at least in Spain we didn't seem to get carol singers or Penny for the Guy" I would have thought you might have realised that.
Just being thankful to save at least a few pennies now we no longer have an income coming in.
