Default Guttering

Last autumn I had to re-tile my first floor balconies as the membranes ruptured and my house was permanently damp. The builder, who has done a very good job, removed the drains running from the terraces down the inside of the walls as he felt that these were also causing damp to penetrate through. However, this has caused another problem as now the rainwater runs directly off the terraces and down the outside walls of the house making track marks as it runs down. The builder has been back with some really awful aluminium guttering that is huge and tells me that this is the only style of guttering available. It will look terrible as the house has pretty Andalucian style detail on the rendering, but I am loathe to have guttering and down pipes shipped from the UK. Does anyone have any ideas? unsure: RF

Yeah, when I did mine, there was a choice between a grey one with a semicircular x section, and a white, square one.

If there isn't an adequate lip to run the water cleanly into the guttering, you can create a 'curtain' that will send all the water in flawlessly.

On my flat roof, the lip was inadequate, so some moron cut it off. Duuuuhhhhh.

Soon got a working lip going tho. I waterproofed the roof with glass fibre mesh and white rubber paint, and just extended the fabric into the guttering.

The (English) prune who reformed parts of our villa decided to lay the terraces with the tiles sloping towards the house - when it rained, the water poured in through the doors!!!!

We had ours done two or three years ago by calling in a specialist who formed the aluminium section on site. The beauty of this system is that it comes in a variety of colours (we chose one to match the painted rendering) and has minimal joints.

Suffice to say we are very happy with it.

It was not very expensive either - we were surprised.

First saw that in Canada in 1972, surprised it hasn`t really caught on, so much better than plastic.

I could weep. Mind you, I have seen some real screwups by alleged professionals in my time.

Bill,

I was only looking at guttering in Leroy's Malaga depot yesterday as I need some 60m of it, they had a price tag of Euro's 64:00 for a 4metre section plus fitments !!!!.

Snikpoh,

I like the concept of custom made guttering at my finca, can you remember the company's name and contact details please.

Bloody hell! The grey stuff is loads cheaper. I think the white was a lot more than the grey, but on the house it looked better.

I bet the custom stuff costs.

Brico depot in Granada has a few sizes in plastic grey or white, I bought some last week with down pipes brackets the lot 3 metres guttering and down pipe, brackets less than 25 quid, however it was the smaller stuff. Larger stuff was if I remember about 8 Euros a 3 metre length, hope that helps you.

Forgot to add, they are in the outside part entrance on the left when facing the shop.

I wouldn't mind aluminium but as long as it is neat. Does anyone know a specialist who could do this further south near Estepona/Marbella area? RF
